JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for all Manufacturing Engineering processes and activity throughout the plant. This position will be an active working position with management responsibility for a small group. This position ensures applicable safety factors and standards are followed, per law and company policy. Responsibilities include: Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction Activity using 4M Analysis (Man, Method, Machine, Material) Fixture Design Designs will range from basic to complex Use final product and its requirements to design a fixture to meet these requirements Minimize fixture complexity Maximize production throughput Equipment Evaluate existing equipment and identify tooling, accessories, upgrades or replacement Perform extensive ROI evaluation and create presentations to top management Tooling Identify new tooling and/or evaluate existing tooling and identify, upgrades or replacement Perform extensive ROI evaluation and create presentations to top management Plant Layout Update and maintain detailed plant layout in AutoCAD or equivalent electronic format Develop plan for optimizing available space Develop workflow for most efficient production results Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling Leading the evaluation of Armor manufacturing processes implementing improved safety, quality and reduced cost solutions Design Reviews Analyzing engineering design documents and make recommendations concerning required methods, processes, tools, fixtures, etc which are required to fabricate the products Attending all design review meetings to provide guidance to engineering regarding DSM (Design for Manufacturability) Build a Manufacturing Engineering department - hire staff as needed based on volume of plant activity and need. Manage the Manufacturing Engineering department - assign staff to projects, review and approve work of the staff prior to release, mentor staff on best practices Developing manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control Inspecting performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigating Implementing cost improvement programs and developing metrics for tracking Leading investigations to identify root cause and implementation of corrective action of repetitive production scrap and quality issues Conducting audits in order to sustain improvements and/or identify lack of adherence Establishing methods to maximize utilization of production equipment and facilities Lead continuous improvement events, such as Kaizen events Additional items as assigned by manager PRINCIPAL CONTACTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE COMPANY This position interacts with shop personnel, engineering, program management, customers. COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction Mind-set using 4M Analysis (Man, Method, Machine, Material) Strong Communication Detail Oriented Ability to build Partnerships Safety Awareness Leadership Disposition All Armor employees are also expected to demonstrate Armor's core values of being: Customer Focused Passionate about Work Solution Oriented Driven by Integrity EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Technical degree such as Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience 5+ years of relevant manufacturing experience Lean Manufacturing Design for Manufacturability AutoCAD (3D preferred) and Microsoft Office proficiency EQUIPMENT USED This position uses a personal computer, telephone, copier/fax machine, and engineering measurement tools. WORKING AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS This position will be in an indoor environment, general office, manufacturing floor and this includes large amount of sitting, standing, and walking.
