This position can be placed in a Step 4,5,6,7,8,9, 10, or 11 level based on experience and assessment.The starting range based on the level / step is $26.93 - $39.31/hr.Responsibilities will include the ability to diagnose, repair, and perform maintenance on the many different types of equipment in our fleet. This includes both on- and off-road equipment with diesel and gasoline engines, automatic and manual transmissions.More specifically, the successful candidate will develop skills to prepare themselves for further advancement in the Automotive Mechanic Development Program in the Fleet Maintenance department. Specific Automotive Mechanic functions include but are not limited to the following activities: Working with our customers in the Construction, Operations, Substation, Transmission, and other departments to understand their needs and issues.Performing various Preventative Maintenance tasks, including oil and other fluid changes, tire changes, etc.Troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing light duty vehicles, diesel engines, hydraulic equipment, drivetrains, air brakes, etc.Ensuring safety rules and regulations are observed in the garage or other worksite.Leveraging technology to analyze issues, track customer needs, time spend on maintenance / repairs, parts used during maintenance/repair activities, etc. Additional Qualifications/ResponsibilitiesRequired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceHS diploma or GED18 years of age or olderValid driver's license; must obtain a CDL learner's permit within 1 month of employment and a CDL prior to 6 months of employment.Minimum of 2-year experience as a professional Automotive Mechanic (A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.)General knowledge of gas combustion engines, diesel engines, air conditioningMust possesses basic hand tools or willing to purchase tools needed to perform the job.Pass drug screening and background checks and be eligible to obtain a state inspection license after an appropriate amount of time in training program.Due to weight limits on equipment, weight restriction of 290 pounds applies.Education RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED.Licenses, Certifications, or Quals DescriptionValid Driver's License is required.Working ConditionsCold Up to 25%Dust / Grease / Oil 76-100%Energized Wires 0%Fumes Up to 25%Heat 26-50%Loud Noise 26-50%Office Work Environment Up to 25%Operating Machinery Up to 25%Outdoors Up to 25%Pressurized Lines & Valves Up to 25%Union - IBEW Local 50 VA/NC/WVATravel 10%
