Position Title Assistant Director of Athletics (ANTICIPATED) Required Application Type Teacher / Admin Salary/Pay Scale Starting at $94,600 per SAA contract Job Description The Assistant Director of Athletics assists the Director in the development, implementation, coordination and supervision of the district's Athletic programs, including all interscholastic, intramural and youth athletic opportunities for diverse school community in compliance with pertinent state and federal laws, Board of Education policies and instructions from the Superintendent. The Assistant Director of Athletics reports to the Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. The Assistant Director of Athletics will perform the following duties and all other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and his/her designee: Supervise personnel in the athletic department, as assigned by the Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. Assist in recruiting, interviewing, screening and recommendation qualified persons to fill a variety of positions, including, extra-curricular athletics, intramural and coaching staff and related personnel. Assist with ensuring that all individuals recommended for hire have and maintain appropriate credentials for employment. Assist in developing and administering an annual review process for all employees in the athletic department. Assist in the review, development and implementation of performance programs for participation in athletic events in accordance with the district policies. Assist with recommending opportunities for professional development for relevant district staff through workshops, conferences, etc. Provide content for communications (i.e., newsletters, social media notifications, website updates, fliers, etc.) with students, community and families regarding extracurricular athletics, events, contests, try-outs, practices, etc. Recommend sound purchasing procedures and assist in monitoring them. Work with the transportation department to coordinate necessary busing and assist with coordinating other travel arrangements for athletic events. Coordinate with the school nurses and other health officials on minimum health requirements, physical examinations and return to play protocols for athletes. In conjunction with relevant district staff, coordinate the use and maintenance of athletic facilities for both district and community related functions and events. Assist with oversight for the processing of requisitions, vouchers, timesheets and related financial and operational functions for areas of responsibility. Along with the Director, represent the district at area meetings such as the Suburban Council, Section 2, and NYSPHSAA. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties. Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certification assigned by the superintendent or his/her designee and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation. KEY COMPETENCIES: An individual serving as the Assistant Director of Athletics will demonstrate the following: Knowledge of NYS laws, regulations and Board policies relevant to areas of responsibilities Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences orally and in writing, including electronic media Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people Strategic outlook and ability to lead with a systems results-oriented perspective Ability to engage in effective interpersonal communications Capacity to identify, diagnose and prioritize key issues Advanced skills for effective delegation and follow-through Ability to navigate the challenges of a highly regulated environment High reliability and executes tasks and directives in timely manner Outstanding project management skills Job Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Master's degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL), with 2-4 years of experience in providing development, direction, leadership, and management for athletic programs. Candidates with effective prior administrative experience in an urban school district with a large racially and economically diverse population are preferred.
