Position Details Position Information Recruitment/Posting Title Business Manager III Job Category Staff & Executive - Finance/Accounting/Purchasing Department Human Genetics Inst of NJ Overview The Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey (HGINJ) has embarked on a major initiative to encourage, foster, and support research in the life sciences within Rutgers University and the greater New Jersey community. As a part of this initiative, further research will be emphasized in five major core programs. Based on the strengths and expertise of the life sciences faculty, these programs include: Brain Disorders, Cancer Genomics, Computational Genetics, Reproductive Genetics, and Stem Cells. Each program is headed by a leading expert in the area of concentration. The mission of the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey (HGINJ) is to operate a world-renowned institute of excellence in human and medical genetics, to collaborate with and enhance research and training programs in the life sciences of Rutgers, and to facilitate scientific relationships with the private sector. HGINJ is comprised of prominent research scientists with specialties encompassing a broad range of topics. Areas of concentration currently include the following core programs: Brain Disorders, Cancer Genomics, Computational Genetics, Reproductive Genetics, and Stem Cells. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Manager III for the Human Genetics Institute of NJ. This position takes a leadership role and provides a variety of financial and administrative support, and reports to the Executive Director of Finance and the key duties of this position are the following: Provides professional accounting, financial analysis and budgeting support for assigned accounts for the Department of Genetics and The Human Genetics Institute of NJ. Manages and oversees grant accounting and grant administration (pre-award and post-award) administration of policies, purchasing and institutional support. Analyzes and reviews financial data and develops budgets and forecasts. Assists faculty with grant applications. Monitors fiscal compliance and enforces applicable regulations (federal, state, grant, and University policies). Works under general supervision, within established work parameters, with few direct instructions. Analyzes data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes consistent with a broad understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of HGINJ. Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by supervisor. Works independently to meet objectives with minimal supervision and requires excellent organizational, planning, communications skills and also demonstrates sound judgment in making decision on behalf of the Department of Genetics and The Human Genetics Institute of NJ. Performs professional work requiring knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices (GAAP), and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of accounting. Assures compliance with all University fiscal policies, policies associated with all funding sources, including compliance with NIH and state and federal laws and regulations, among others. For details, please go to Seniority Unit Terms of Appointment Staff - 12 month Position Pension Eligibility ABP Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. A minimum of five years of grant and contract accounting experience in a financial/accounting function. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent communication skills, computer literacy and ability to juggle multiple priorities. Knowledge of NIH programs desired. Ability to interpret and apply University, funding agency policies and governmental regulations to assigned accounts/awards. Capacity to perform in a high-pressured office. Good problem solving skills and ability to function autonomously. Must have an understanding of the scope of authority and a commitment to a high degree of professionalism. Preferred Qualifications Experience with the full range of grant and contract accounting/management in a university. Equipment Utilized ITWorks - personnel and account management system. Grant systems: eRA Commons, grants.gov, fastlane, RAPSS. QuickBooks , Accounting Programs, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Suite.
