Summary: Under the general direction of the Manager of Volunteer Services assists in the planning development and implementation of volunteer that support and augment the staff of the Rhode Island Hospital in the delivery of health care. Responsibilities: Assists the Manager in planning the goals objectives and scope of the volunteer services program so that it augments the services of the hospital staff. Assist in the development of forms policies and procedures. Interviews volunteer applicants for appropriate fit arranges placement where appropriate and coordinates training with participating department. Maintains schedules for all volunteers in all service areas. Conducts orientation and coordinates training sessions for all volunteers. Coordinates and schedules workshops and seminars for volunteers periodically creates support groups for volunteers as needs arise and assist the Manager with planning other group programs. Monitors health screening for all volunteers and provide access to employee health services and infection control information. Monitors volunteer attendance and behavior and takes disciplinary action when necessary. Conduct performance evaluations exit interviews and professional development training for volunteers. Establishes and maintains a good rapport with staff members in service areas. Prepares reports for Manager for example statistical profile of volunteers. Researches community resources for recruitment of volunteers and make outreach telephone calls and personal visits. Generates a variety of correspondence including solicitations recommendations and thank you letters. Prepares a monthly calendar of events. Assists the Manager in development of new services and assignments for volunteers. Investigates and develops pilot programs. Discuss volunteer opportunities with potential candidates telephoning or visiting the office. Develops and maintains department records such as job descriptions procedures manuals and volunteers* communication logs. Serves on hospital committees and attends meetings as a representative of Volunteer Services. Maintains computerized office records including skills bank statistics volunteer schedules and monthly reports. Assists in planning annual awards event for the volunteer and other recognition ceremonies throughout the year. Maintains a current knowledge of current or new trends and changes in the volunteer services field new legal and governmental regulations and other changes governing volunteers of all ages by attending seminars/workshops and subscribing to professional publications. Regular contact with nursing staff physicians department heads and other providers of care. Frequent contact with outside companies organizations and institutions placement directors from area colleges and universities and prospective volunteers. Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: High school diploma or equivalent required. Highly skilled written communication and public speaking required. Capable of planning and organizing programs and services to meet patient staff and volunteer needs. Ability to supervise volunteers of diverse age groups and socio-economic backgrounds and monitor volunteer activities to ensure safety of patients parents and staff. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years previous work experience which includes interviewing counseling public speaking program development and training responsibilities. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Performs independently within the departments policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor when clarification of departmental policies and procedures are required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Volunteers at Rhode Island Hospital.
