Summary This position is located in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Health Systems Bureau. The duty location for this position is in Rockville, MD. Responsibilities Nurse Consultants are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are critical in supporting Health Resources and Services Administration's nursing care and treatment for outpatient, specialty clinics, urgent care and/or emergency patients. Major Duties: As a Nurse Consultant, your major duties and responsibilities include: Providing leadership, expert advice and consultation using expertise and knowledge in nursing, organ donation and transplantation, patient safety, public health, or specific issues and initiatives focusing on the optimal healthcare of all. Providing authoritative advice and guidance in the day-to-day operation and execution of public health programs as well as patient safety initiatives. Participating in program planning, making recommendations concerning coordination activities with the other teams, offices, and Divisions within the Bureau. Collaborating with HRSA and Bureau staff in using research, information, and data to make informed decisions and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of public health programs and to ensure appropriate alignment to best meet the needs of patients and others who could be impacted by HRSA's programs. OPM's Basic Requirements for Nursing Series, 0610 Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. You must provide an SF50 dated September 2017 or earlier that verifies you occupied a 0610 position. Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. MINIMUM QUALIFYING SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance. Examples of minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-13 level in the federal service include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis: Using professional nursing knowledge and experience to evaluate complex health care problems and provide advice and/or recommendations that will enhance health care delivery outcomes. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
