Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance and operation of the of protection and control systems necessary for the safe and reliable operation of the transmission and distribution system to meet the mission and objectives of the organization. In addition, this position coordinates the evaluation of system failures, and the appropriate resolutions, in order to provide support to operations on unplanned maintenance. This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization's Life Cycle Plan, a comprehensive long-term plan for the transmission/distribution system. Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing and directing the work performed by other Engineers and staff. "‹This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office. Department Summary: Protection and Control Engineering department executes project deliverables for measurement, automation and protection relaying schemes of the transmission and distribution to ensure safety, reliability, economy and system efficiency. Our personnel will apply advanced techniques and electrical engineering methodology for modeling and analyzing electric system elements and their protection systems using fault simulation software. Where applicable, activities are performed in compliance with applicable engineering design standards, safety codes and related NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE compliance. Essential Functions: Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews. Assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed by at least 2 FTE Engineers or 1 FTE Engineer and 1 FTE Designer. Responsible for the scope and cost development, justification and approval of the Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects Review and evaluate proposed changes to existing electric facilities to ensure compatibility with established Eversource protection system standards and practices. Create new Protection and Control system designs in accordance with Eversource Standards as required. Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems, and the preparation of system electrical permits and related customer notifications, are completed accurately and on time. Oversee or provide guidance in the development, calculation, and documentation of settings and logic for protective relays, logic processors, feeder reclosers, and switches necessary to support Eversource system reliability projects and initiatives. Review and evaluate the results of coordination studies by modeling and analyzing electric system elements and their protection systems using fault simulation software. Analyze protection system operations during transmission and distribution system disturbances in support of Substation Technical Group Event analysis. Ensure department work is performed in adherence to applicable company or compliance engineering and design standards, safety codes and related NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE compliance. Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork. Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations. Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions. Interface with Eversource Planning, Operations and Field personnel to support their efforts to plan, operate and maintain the transmission and distribution system. Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system. Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance. Manage and perform work activities in a self-sufficient manner without frequent guidance and oversight. Assumes the role of the Manager as required Actively support storm and/or emergency restoration assignments. Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications: Technical Knowledge/Skill: Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention-to-detail. Working knowledge of standard office computer software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Education: Requires a BS in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology Concentration or advance degree in Power System Engineering preferred. Experience: Eight years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry. Supervisory experience preferred. Preferred Experience: Experience performing overcurrent and distance coordination studies with ASPEN One-liner modeling software or equivalent. Experience performing post event analysis using relay and digital fault recorder event records. Experience with the design and installation of protection and control schemes utilizing IEC61850 protocol. Additionally, experience with the following would be beneficial: SCADA, RTUs, HMIs, telecommunication, relay, substation, protection, control system, transmission, distribution, and power line carrier logic, coordination studies, relay settings, IEC 61850 , Automation, metering, measurement, ASPEN One-liner, relaying scheme, reclosers, programmable logic controller(PLC) Working Conditions: Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required. Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary. Compensation and Benefits: Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $137,310.00 - $152,570.00 plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience.
