Job Summary The position of a Synrad SENIOR QUALITY ENGINEER / VALUE STREAM QUALITY LEADER is a specialized technical position where a plethora of challenges await. We are seeking a motivated individual to identify opportunities and efficiently implement changes across the full Value stream, with a primary bias to improve product and process Quality for a designated set of Product Families/ Value Stream. You will serve as the primary Quality representative for all aspects of Quality (including Customer, Manufacturing, Supplier and New Product Quality) performance. You will also serve as the primary interface to key customer's Quality issues related to the associated Value Stream. Primary Responsibilities Interface with customers on matters related to product quality and report on status of corrective actions. Engage with suppliers and factory teams to lead or facilitate resolution of significant quality issues. Assist and/or own failure root cause analysis and corrective actions tied to quality issues identified in/ originating from the supported product families. Assist the strategic sourcing effort to assess, audit, qualify and improve suppliers to the value stream. Evaluate products, materials, and processes for improvement opportunities, prioritize and execute necessary changes related to your product families. Actively learn and deploy NGS (Novanta Growth System) initiatives and lead adoption of NGS principles in the area. Drive deep into existing/legacy products to define, characterize and improve internal test and assembly processes, as well as improve specifications and direction for suppliers Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system (ISO9001) Lead internal and supplier quality audits Promote the use of customer preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), and Measurement System Analysis Manage and coordinate activities to improve customer PPM (Parts per Million), as well as supplier PPM, Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies Requirements: Willingness to acquire knowledge on new technologies to solve quality and productivity problems Excellent problem solving and analytical skills Able to work independently, self-directed and solutions-oriented. Sound organizational and planning skills with a solid attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills (through all org levels) Ability to use practical electronic theory, small hand tools, electronic meters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (prefer Mechanical or Manufacturing) 7+ years experience in a manufacturing environment 3+ years as a Manufacturing or Quality Engineer 3+ years experience working within a Quality Management Systems (such as ISO-9001:2015) supporting supplier, internal process, and customer Quality improvement Familiarity with ISO 14001 & 45001 is a plus Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) Experience with Problems Solving tools (ex: FMEA, 8D/ DIVE, Six Sigma) Understanding of statistical tools and associated analytic tools Demonstrated ability to write code that facilitates automation, PLC programming and/or LabVIEW experience preferred Demonstrated ability to be a Continuous Improvement change agent Capable of reading schematics & drawings, GD&T, Cleanroom and vacuum systems experience is very beneficial Electronic troubleshooting and soldering experience a plus Cross Functional Requirements: Able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to lead small group activities/ projects, not limited to 8D & Kaizen Mechanical Design experience, with Solidworks preferred Knowledge of optical systems is desired Familiarity with schematics/blueprints is desired Travel Requirements 20%-30% Physical Requirements Vision: Near, Far, Depth and color perception Able to lift to 40 lbs.
