The right candidate will be familiar with 3D metal additive manufacturing techniques and equipment in order to work with both customers and suppliers. To learn more about the Additive Manufacturing at Penn United, please visit Duties and Responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer: Work with suppliers and customers on product designs for the 3D metal Additive Manufacturing processes. Take a lead role in manufacturing feasibility studies on new applications of AM. Research and problem solve any material, process and part issues such as defect structure and porosity issues. Improve properties such as fatigue resistance. Design the part for best AM feasibility. Eliminate or design for internal porosity. Apply machine vision, machine learning and other computational tools in the AM process. Assist with training internal employees on the applications of 3D metal AM technologies. Explore use of a wide variety of AM materials. Assist in operating the AM machine and processes. Work closely with quotations personnel to provide technical assistance. Ensure all engineering documentation for each job is completed properly. Qualifications Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer : Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Material Science Engineering with Additive Manufacturing experience required. Must have experience with Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS). Must have experience in CAD, solid modeling software, and additive manufacturing. Experience with 3-D printed metal applications. Knowledgeable in 3-D metals printing process, such as microstructure control, porosity, powder spreading, and melt pool geometry. Knowledgeable in 3-D part inspection and qualification process, machine learning and computer vision, and nondestructive evaluation. Knowledgeable in geometric design and optimization. Knowledge and understanding of machine shop capabilities and inspection equipment preferred. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical processes. Able to work and communicate well with coworkers and customers at a professional level. May be asked to work an adjusted schedule to fulfill customer requirements.
