The Office of Academic Affairs, Student Counseling Center (SCC) is recruiting for a temporary contractual (Contingent Category I/CI) Counselor_OR_ Senior Counselor. This position will be filled based on the selected incumbent's qualifications. The Counselor/Senior Counselor provides services designed to minimize the impact of mental illness or emotional distress on the academic and personal pursuits of students through effective referral assistance, coordination of care, and communication between campus and community resources. Provides assistance, outreach, advocacy, and support to students across a broad spectrum of issues and concerns such as complex behavioral and/or psychological challenges, social or adjustment problems and academic related challenges. / Contingent Category I (CI) employees are temporary employees. For additional information on protocols and exemptions, please visit theCOVID-19 website. _Essential Functions: Counselor_ Maintains clinical case load of individual student clients, and conducts time-limited individual, couples and group short-term, solution focused counseling. May provide psycho-educational and process group counseling as needed. Identifies and evaluates student's current mental health needs and develops a treatment plan. Performs emergency services including triage and crisis intervention. In collaboration with the SCC multidisciplinary team, benchmarks, brainstorms, and implements appropriate best practices in the on and off campus referral assistance process. Assists the SCC staff with referrals for students following phone triage, in-person assessment, crisis, and as clients are transferring treatment from the SCC to off campus provider(s). After referral assistance, provides follow up to ensure that clients have ongoing support, and are successfully referred out. Communicates with involved campus entities, such as the Deans of Student Affairs, the AVP of Academic Affairs and BETA and CARE Team. Ensures continuity of care for students is also being managed through these entities in accordance with Maryland Mental Health Code and professional ethical standards. Assists in psychiatric hospitalization of students and aftercare planning following hospitalization; this includes communication of the SCC services limitations to discharge coordinator. Serves as a liaison to local hospitals. Maintains and completes case management notes in a timely manner and other accountability measures consistent with center's established timeline. Performs clinical chart reviews. May coordinate, design, and implement psychoeducational programs. May provide clinical training and supervision of graduate students. Supervisory Experience: N/A. Certification/Licensure: *Licensed Master Social Work - (LMSW) or Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor - (LGPC) in the State of Maryland. *Other: No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement. _MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Senior Counselor_ * *Education: Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology. Experience: One (1) year of post-licensure (LCSW, LCSW-C, or LCPC) experience in related area of treatment including responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others. Two years of related post-licensure experience is preferred. Supervisory Experience: N/A. Certification/Licensure: *Licensed as Licensed Certified Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Maryland or Licensed as Certified Social Worker (LCSW) or (LCSW-C) in the State of Maryland. *Other: No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * * Skill in providing psychotherapy to adults. * Ability to successfully design and facilitate educational programs and workshops. Ability in providing competent services to all clients in a diverse environment. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and skill in working with diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural ethnic backgrounds of graduate, professional students, faculty, and staff including those with disabilities. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. * Highly effective verbal and written communication skills. * Experience in crisis and suicide assessment and intervention. * Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of state and federal health care privacy laws, Title IX, HIPPA and FERPA as well as professional code of ethics. * Knowledge of chemical dependency and eating disorders and their impact on students. * Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills. * Exercise discretion and good judgment in making independent decisions. *Hiring Range: Commensurate with education and experience.
