Astellas is announcing an Environmental Health and Safety Associate, Research opportunity at their Astellas Institute for Regenerative Medicine (AIRM) site in Cambridge, MA. Purpose: The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Safety Associate is responsible for supporting the implementation of all applicable Federal and State Environmental, Health and Safety regulations as well as compliance with internal Astellas standards. Based in Cambridge, MA. Essential Job Responsibilities: Support improvements in site EHS culture, awareness, and accountability Assist the efforts to operationalize EHS at sites. Support each sites personnel to understand and comply with all environmental permits. Assist the EHS Lead in the planning and delivery of EHS training. Oversee compliance assurance program, perform site audits, and work with management team to implement corrective actions. Conduct job hazard analysis (JHA) of all positions within each department and update the JHAs as needed. Constantly walk through the sites to ensure that employees follow safety protocols. Assist with employee incident investigation to uncover root cause and track completion of corrective actions. Maintain EHS expertise to provide technical and regulatory support to Operations team. Maintain site EHS metrics and work cooperatively with EHS management on various projects and initiatives, including culture change, safety inspections, chemical waste management and environmental regulations. Actively contribute to the direction and content of site EHS programs. Working Relationships - Must demonstrate effective communication and develop working relationships with senior management, front line supervision, as well as other employees. Reviews the procurement of chemicals and materials purchased for production, engineering, and R&D, including the maintenance of the library of SDS's. Qualifications Required: B.S. in Environmental/Health and Safety Science, engineering, or Applied Sciences degree is required. 0-3 years' experience in biotechnology and / or Environmental, Health and Safety. Knowledge of federal and state regulations, industry standards and best management practices pertaining to occupational health & safety. Technical and practical knowledge of biotechnology, research, and development and/or manufacturing is highly recommended, or a willingness to quickly become proficient is required. Ability to collaborate with people in a culturally diverse environment. Excellent communication skills (written, oral and presentation). Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously. Effective problem identification and solution skills Proven analytical and organizational ability. Preferred: ASP (Associate Safety Professional) is a plus. Working knowledge of Biological Research Laboratories. Working Conditions: This position is based in Cambridge, MA and will require on-site work.
