Position Details Position Information Recruitment/Posting Title Facility Mechanic Job Category Staff & Executive - Facilities/Environmental/Maintenance Department IPO-Facilities Maintenance-Nwk Overview The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Facility Mechanic for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O).Among the key duties of this position are the following: Performs a variety of maintenance repairs and installations, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC /R and painting in and around the building and grounds of the facility. Use Sketches, operational manuals or manufacturer's specifications as needed. Direct other mechanics and helpers. For details, please go to Seniority Unit Terms of Appointment Staff - 12 month Position Pension Eligibility PERS Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Technical school diploma or an equivalent level of knowledge plus two (2) years of experience in the fields of electrical plumbing, HVAC /R, carpentry, painting and/or general maintenance in an industrial, education and/or healthcare setting. Certifications/Licenses Valid driver's license. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to perform minor repair to all skilled trades including mechanical equipment/systems, HVAC /R, electrical, plumbing, and fire alarm systems. Preferred Qualifications New Jersey Black Seal Engineer's License is preferred. Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to perform physical labor without restrictions, including lifting equipment in excess of fifty (50) pounds, performing work on roof, scaffolds and ladders. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Working inside and outside on utilities department equipment .Driving from campus to campus to perform daily maintenance functions.
