Job Details Job Location Gwinnett - Duluth, GA Position Type Full Time Education Level 2 Year Degree Travel Percentage None Job Category Admin - Clerical Description The Surgery Counselor plays a vital role in enhancing patient experiences and ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures. This position is responsible for delivering comprehensive surgery counseling, coordinating patient services, and educating patients on various aspects of our surgical offerings. In this role the Surgery Counselor will coordinate all aspects of the surgical process, including scheduling, paperwork, and patient communication to ensure seamless execution. Manage patient inquiries and concerns with sensitivity and professionalism, ensuring a positive patient experience. Have working knowledge of ICD and CPT codes Ensure and maintain the highest regard for patients' records and physicians' information professionally and in compliance with local, state and federal mandates Understand the importance of positive attitude, appearance in uniform, accuracy in work, attendance on the job and adaptability in achieving objectives of Thomas Eye Group Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and data, ensuring that all proprietary and personal details are protected in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Must be a self-starter with the initiative to identify problems and provide suggestions of corrective action Ability to resolve conflict/grievances and provide/receive constructive criticism Job Expectations: Responsible for the premium services conversion rate of our patients. Proficient in completing pre-op paperwork and ability to explain surgical services to patients and family members. Provides patients with pre-op and postoperative counseling. Schedule appointment dates/times for patients and physicians using a computerized scheduling system with the ability to assist patients in being compliant in pre-op and post-op regiments. Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff, both within the clinic/ASC and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information. Coordinate processes and route all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements. Provides accurate, thorough, and complete documentation of all information pertinent to patient treatment. Returns and responds to all calls relating to scheduling. Maintain, follow-up, accommodate, ensure work is completed properly and timely (accuracy is important). Ensures any necessary medical clearances are obtained by the patient prior to surgery. Knowledgeable regarding co-management with referring. Ability to assist patients in being compliant in pre-op and post-op regiments. Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff, both within the clinics, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Anesthesia Group and outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information. Ensures any necessary medical clearances are obtained by the patient prior to surgery. Knowledgeable regarding co-management with referring providers and ensures compliance with the scheduling of post-operative visits. Communicates with referring providers as needed. Communicates with assigned physician and surgery center staff to ensure all special supplies are received prior to the surgical date and informs ASC of any add on patients. Reschedules appointments as needed. Helps with other ancillary tasks including but not limited to following up with patients that no-show or cancel surgical appointments, sending H&P orders and consents to outside hospitals, constantly edit consents and documents as processes change. Qualifications Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma, degree preferred Required Minimum Experience: 2-4 years in a healthcare setting, ophthalmology preferred. A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Explorer and the Internet Typing speed of 45 wpm Knowledge of surgical terminology, ocular anatomy Effective Communicator in providing Customer Service working with patients and physicians Proficient Grammar (oral and written) Detailed Oriented and Organized Problem Solver and ability to work independently with minimal supervision Positive mind-set and mannerisms (ability to inspire others) Maintain confidentiality of patients records and physicians information Experience with EMR software (with Ophthalmology specific software preferred). Experience with patient customer service. Ability to work with Excel, Word, and medical software.
