Date of Appointment: As soon as possible Description of Responsibilities: Provide support in a wide range of security and operational domains, including penetration testing, vulnerability and information security assessments, and support of daily operational tasks and projects that improve our information security program. Ensure appropriate and effective procedures are defined and appropriately implemented to protect the University's information resources. This position will have blended responsibilities inside of the Security Team and the Infrastructure Services team and will also participate in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of campus infrastructure services. Will report to the Associate Director of Infrastructure and Security and will be expected to work with a team of technical support professionals in the following areas: Collaborate with multiple teams to conduct security risk assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend vital adjustments to improve our security posture and operational resilience. Provide clear and understandable reports for management review Shared management of Endpoint security applications Work in collaboration with other staff to maintain the day-to-day operations of the security functionality of Cloud services and Email Collaborate with peers to meet SUNY Information Security Policy and Guidelines as described in SUNY Document 6608 and 6609 Collaborate with multiple teams to prepare and deliver learning activities in collaboration with other campus representatives for a variety of audiences to promote Cyber Security Awareness Continually evaluate existing systems, services, and networks for conformance with security policies, standards, and industry best practice Participate in Vulnerability scanning and remediation Participate in Log collection management and correlation across systems Participate in designing and building Cyber Security systems to reduce risks and maintain compliance in on-premise and cloud-based environments Contribute to the development and operation of operating system and application security procedures and standards Collaborate with the Infrastructure Services team on the installation, configuration, and maintenance of physical and virtual server infrastructure Collaborate on the automation of routine infrastructure and security operational tasks Responding to user-reported, automatically detected, and self-found security incidents, Participate as a member of the incident response team Maintain proficiency in and awareness of security services, industry trends, and procedures is expected, including but not limited to PCI, FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA, NIST 800 Explain technical concepts in clear non-technical terms Due to the nature of the position, this position will require some evening and weekend work This position will report in person to the main SUNY Oswego campus in Oswego, NY, with limited virtual options. Job Requirements: Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to organize resources, prioritize multiple tasks and work in a team as well as independently, show initiative Experience with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, MacOS, mobile) Adapt swiftly to evolving technological challenges in high-pressure situations Uncompromising ethics and confidentiality Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills Preferred Qualifications: Information Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Forensics or related degree 1 year of hands-on-experience in information security assessments, penetration testing Relevant skill certifications (CISSP, CEH, GIAC, CISM, etc) Knowledge of PCI, FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA, NIST 800 and other compliance regulations Experience with a variety of Cyber Security tools including but not limited to Nexpose, Tenable, Metasploit, Solarwinds, Veeam, Vsphere, AlertLogic Experience with Endpoint security application management tools Experience with systems automation and orchestration Experience working with VMware, Active Directory, LDAP or other Identity management tools Experience with the setup configuration and support of a wide variety of operating systems including Windows Server, Linux, Windows 10/11, MacOS Experience with programming tools and languages such as Windows PowerShell, Linux shell scripting Experience working with a diverse population of community members At SUNY Oswego we value the diversity found in each member of our campus community and strive to create a community where that diversity is embraced and enhanced.
