JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Brandywine is seeking a highly motivated, professional Academic Advising Specialist. Reporting directly to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), the Academic Advising Specialist provides oversight and strategic direction for campus advising (faculty and staff); Division of Undergraduate Studies; data collection, analysis, and assessment related to advising and retention; and academic activities during New Student Orientation. The Specialist collaborates with colleagues across Penn State's Commonwealth Campuses to provide excellence in advising. Through effective advising Brandywine students learn to take full advantage of their Penn State experience. They gain intellectual skills that support informed decision-making in their educational planning, exploration of alternative programs and majors, as well as co-curricular involvement. The successful candidate will have a track record of working effectively with students from all cultural and economic backgrounds. Comprehensive knowledge of university policy and procedures that apply to the matriculation and the academic, personal, and professional development of undergraduate students is strongly preferred. Responsibilities: Direct academic advising for assigned college/campus; develop and implement assessment plans for advising program; direct strategic planning for immediate and projected needs. Coordinate effective academic advising and advising-related retention activities, including programs to address at-risk students. Prepare, coordinate, and implement New Student Orientation Proactively and holistically advise undergraduate students at a variety of levels and positions in their college careers to promote academic and career success. Lead academic advising portion of New Student Orientation, including knowledge of VZO platform. Recruit, hire, train and supervise Academic Advising staff. Coordinate campus use of Starfish advising platform and report data for action by campus faculty and staff. Serve on the University Advising Council and collaborate with units on campus and throughout the University on issues and programs related to advising. Participate in recruiting events and conduct information sessions for students and parents. Competencies critical to success include: Supervisory experience strongly preferred. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a Master's degree in a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory experience strongly preferred. Master's degree or equivalent in student development, counseling, education, or related field preferred. Experience in higher education preferred.
