The preferred location for this position is Charlotte, NC, but the selected candidate can sit anywhere within the Duke Energy service territory. PMC is the Project Management and Construction group, within Duke Energy, responsible for the development, engineering, construction and commissioning of new generating facilities. Current and future projects include natural gas fired combined and simple cycle plants, large solar installations, large battery installations, wind facilities, pumped storage facilities, and modification of existing dams. The Engineering group, within PMC, provides intrusive technical oversight of external contractors to ensure the project design conforms to Duke Energy specifications and criteria. PMC Engineering also provides technical support and direction to project managers during all project phases. The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy, expected to have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. This position is expected to develop skills and the ability to work with greater independence. Responsibilities Possess knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures. Provide engineering/technical guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems in the discipline of mechanical engineering. Support development phase of major project scope and EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) bid package which includes cost estimate, schedule, risk analysis, bid evaluation and contract development. Participate in design reviews, drawing reviews, construction support, RFI (Request For Information) resolution, commissioning support, and project warranty support. Much of the effort is to ensure compliance with project design criteria and specifications. Provide on-site engineering support for construction and commissioning of projects. Prepare thorough technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems. Support accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees. Represent the company positively and professionally. Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. Maintain accurate records and files. Required/Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or will obtain degree by May 2025 A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree. Desired Qualification ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred. Additional Preferred Qualifications Understanding of basic mechanical engineering theories and principles with an emphasis on thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations. Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Good written and oral communication skills. Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam and desire to complet
