Job Type Part-time Description Sycamore Services is looking for Van Drivers to make a difference in others' lives and your own by providing reliable transportation, enabling individuals to move freely, access services, and engage in daily activities, significantly improving their quality of life. Supervises : None Work Environment : 100% Travel Reports To : Manager of Morgan County Connect, Directors Location : Morgan County, Indiana Purpose : In this role, the Van Driver will not only be responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle but will also provide assistance to passengers, ensuring their comfort and security during transit. The driver will engage with passengers to foster a welcoming environment, promote independence, and encourage community participation. The van driver serves as a representative of the organization, embodying Sycamore's values and missions while providing compassionate and respectful service to the community. Responsibilities : Provide safe and timely public transport of individuals by operating a motor vehicle in compliance with all applicable DOT, Federal, State, local, and system regulations. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking the vehicle, including the use of adaptive equipment as needed. Effectively communicate with passengers, community members, and co-workers. Ensure safety is taken while transporting participants and emergencies are handled while en route. Complete documentation and maintain records as instructed. Complete inspections and inventories as assigned. Conduct regular inspections of the vehicle, ensuring it is clean, well-maintained, and in compliance with safety regulations. Assist individuals while boarding and disembarking the vehicle, including the use of mobility aids when necessary. Maintain accurate records of transportation schedules, mileage, and any incidents or concerns during transport. Supports & Instruction : Treat all passengers with respect, ensuring they feel valued and included regardless of their abilities. Be aware of and sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of passengers, fostering an inclusive environment. Foster a positive atmosphere through friendly interaction, encouraging passengers to express themselves and engage socially. Requirements Optimize daily transportation routes to ensure timely arrivals and departures, accommodating special requests and changing schedules. Be prepared to handle emergencies, including medical situations, vehicle breakdowns, or unexpected changes in plans ensuring the safety of all passengers. Be 21 Years of age or older. Possess a valid driver's license, a good driving record that meets or exceeds the system's established driver eligibility standards, and the ability to obtain a public passenger chauffeur's license required. Ability to successfully pass a DOT Physical, Drug Testing, and Alcohol Testing. Must have phone accessibility and knowledge. Ability to keep accurate documentation. Knowledge of developmental disabilities is preferred. Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, twist, push, and pull. Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity when interacting with diverse populations. Physical Requirements : Must possess the ability to operate a vehicle safely, including large vans or vehicles equipped with adaptive features for passengers with disabilities. Ability to enter and exit the vehicle easily, navigate different terrains, and assist passengers in boarding and exiting. Capability to lift and secure mobility devices (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers) and assist passengers. Ability to lift to 50 lbs. independently, remain alert during shifts, and sit for extended periods.
