The Committee's planning takes into account evidence based staffing and care standards established by professional nursing organizations, as well as measurable patient and staffing outcomes, nurse sensitive quality indicators, and financial stewardship metrics. Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Mother-Baby Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Mother-Baby Nurses include (but are not limited to): Coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate both mother and infant care plans. Monitors bonding between mother and infant. Performs emotional status checks on mother. Supports mother and infant in their breastfeeding journey. Involves and educates family/significant others in implementing best practices for mother and infant care. Qualifications: EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Diploma (Not HS) in Nursing and Bachelor's Degree in Nursing within 4 years CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Illinois upon hire and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 1 year and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Previous nursery and/or labor and delivery experience preferred. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Attend and satisfactorily complete all required continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients. Essential Functions: Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers, and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Provides care to the inpatient obstetric patient. Monitors fetal well being. Administers medication specific to the obstetric patient. Provides patient education specific to the obstetric population.
