Salary: $22.62 Hourly Location : Beaumont, TX Job Type: Full-Time Department: Jack Brooks Regional Airport Opening Date: 07/30/2024 FLSA: Non-Exempt Description Summary: The airport is seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanic to develop/manage the airport equipment maintenance program and oversee the Airport Maintenance Department. This dual-role position is crucial to ensure the smooth operation and safety of County-owned Airport facilities. Ideal candidate will possess a strong background in various equipment and facility maintenance, management and leadership qualities, and demonstrate a proactive approach to managing maintenance and repair schedules and procedures; services, performs preventive maintenance and repairs vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to, fire trucks, fuel trucks, tractors, mowing implements, small equipment (mowers/weed-eaters), generators, and other Airport grounds equipment. Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: 1. Equipment Maintenance: Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on various types of equipment, including inspections, repairs, and component replacements; perform preventive maintenance procedures (oil changes, lubrications, tune-up, replacing hoses, lines, batteries Troubleshoot, diagnose, and service mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on gasoline and diesel engines, exhaust systems, etc., all systems on a wide variety of equipment. Maintain and repair a wide variety of airport equipment such as aircraft tugs, fuel trucks, fire trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors and bat-wing mowers, fork lift, zero-turn mowers, small-engine equipment, and minor airline ground equipment (baggage conveyors and ground-power units). Perform basic mechanical duties like (changing oil, filters, brake pads, lines and hoses). Maintain all fuel trucks in accordance with ATA 103 fueling regulations. Maintain aviation tank farm operation and compliance with FAA and supplier regulations. 2. Maintenance Department Oversight: Supervise the day-to-day operations of a team of maintenance technicians and support staff. Responsible for training employees on equipment operation, pre-operation checklist, and reporting equipment issues. Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring that all equipment and facilities are properly maintained. Organize department employees to ensure Airport grounds are maintained in a clean and appealing manner. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate procurement of necessary parts and supplies (oil, lubricants, other fluids). 3. Airfield and Facilities Maintenance: Ensure Airport Maintenance Department has adequate supplies and inventory to address Airfield operational capabilities Assist Airfield Operations Personnel and Airport Electrician in performing inspections and repairs of Airfield Electrical and Lighting System. Diagnose and troubleshoot various facility issues (aircraft hangar doors and operators, overhead door operators, building HVAC systems, and basic facility plumbing). Enforce safety protocols and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements. Implement corrective actions as needed to maintain a safe working environment. 4. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Report to management regarding departmental performance, budget adherence, and operational efficiency. Other Job Functions: Performs other job-related duties, as directed. Responsible to manage maintenance department employees to carry out overall airport maintenance functions NOTE: The above describes the general nature and level of work being performed by employees holding this position. Education & Experience Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED; mechanical and technical skills and knowledge obtained by specialized training, formal education and/or extensive on-the-job training as a mechanic; 5 years of related job experience in both gasoline and diesel engines; knowledge of centrifugal pump repair. Specialized Requirements: Valid Commercial Driver's License. Pass background check as required by FAA and TSA security requirements. Must live within 30 minutes of the Airport. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Equipment Used: Hand and power tools to repair and maintain vehicles and other mechanical equipment; pickup truck; tractor; fork truck; two-way radio, airfield radio. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and understand technical repair and installation manuals; math calculation skills; problem solving skills; interpersonal skills necessary to interact and cooperate with co-workers and deal effectively with vendors and suppliers. Work Situations/Demands/Efforts: Job requires organizing; attention to detail; working alone and as part of a group; flexibility in order to perform a variety of duties; performing routine, repetitive duties; dealing with emergency situations; driving trucks; operating machinery. Employee works independently within established guidelines and time frame; requires assistance only with unusual, non-routine problems and situations; 24-hour call out possible. Position is considered Essential in the Airport's Emergency Plan, requiring employee to shelter at airport, along with other Airport Essential staff, during emergency events. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an open shop area shared with others and also outside; employee may be subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity and precipitation; noise and vibration; heavy machinery and equipment with moving parts; adverse atmospheric conditions from dust, fuel and chemical fumes, paint, other. Physical Requirements: Job duties require regular walking and standing; working with tools, electrical equipment, heavy machinery; driving trucks and other vehicles; operating lawn, grounds and other mechanical equipment; climbing; moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs., such as tools, equipment, supplies, by lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling.
