Position Type: Support Services - Academic Advisor/Academic Advisor Date Posted: 7/11/2023 Location: Remote At the present time, a vacancy exists in the Support Services department for 3 PT Academic Advisors . LOCATION: This part-time position works remotely. SUMMARY OF POSITION: The part-time Academic Advisor assists educators in the educational process including communicating with students and their families to ensure that students are successful in the online environment. The part-time academic advisor serves as a consistent contact for students and parents. While the position is primarily a telework assignment, the candidate must be flexible to be present in the office or work from home, as directed. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Academic Advisor Role & Communication a. Assists teachers with; 1. Encouraging student participation and organization 2. Communicating student progress with students and parents 3. Student and parent communications b. Assist students in finding answers using best available resources. c. Assist students and families through the orientation process. d. Work within our curriculum delivery system to help identify and track student participation. e. Review documents for authenticity and completeness. f. Handle telephone calls promptly and with courtesy. g. Confer regularly with staff to plan and coordinate activities. h. Explain, interpret, and enforce a wide range of academic policies and regulations related to public schools. 2. Data Integrity a. Document phone communication accurately to reflect conversations. b. Work with other owners of data to ensure complete records. c. Assist in the collection for our data based decision-making process. 3. Administrative Duties a. Follow up on attendance issues including but not limited to letters, calls, and database tracking. b. Screen and prioritize routine correspondence. Take initiative when appropriate. c. Perform other projects as deemed necessary by the supervisor. ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS: Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of student information system (SIS). Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to use independent judgment to manage confidential information. Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and laws regarding student records. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS : 1. Education and Experience a. Bachelor's degree desirable b. High school diploma required. c. Experience working with applications in a Macintosh environment such as MS Office, FileMaker, Google Apps preferred d. Some experience in a K-12 school desirable 2. Professional or Other Required Certifications a. Valid PA Teaching Certification Preferred (Core content areas - English, Math, Science, Social Studies) b. Act 114, Act 34 and Act 151 Clearances/Federal Criminal History Information (CHRI), valid within the year at time of hire. c. Valid, state-issued driver's license. Schedule : 10 Month/ 195 Day Monday-Friday 8:00am-2:00pm Telework - While the position is primarily a telework assignment, the candidate must be flexible to be present in the office or work from home, as directed.
