The Senior Benefits & Compensation Manager is responsible for leading the planning, design, and execution of the company's health & welfare and financial benefits programs. This role ensures these programs align with the company's business objectives and are competitive, cost-effective, efficient, and compliant with legal standards. The manager works closely within Human Resources and with leaders across the company to communicate and gain support for benefits offerings and compensation strategies to attract and retain talent. Duties and Responsibilities: Benefit Plan Design and Development: Develop and execute project plans for ongoing and new health & welfare, wellness, and financial initiatives. Ensure benefits programs are current with regards to trends, practices, costs, and competitiveness and make recommendations to CSM leadership to improve offerings. Evaluate systemic issues and consult with key stakeholders to develop and refine processes and policies. Educate and influence executives, in partnership with cross functional business leaders, to gain approvals on programs. Benefit Plan Delivery: Develop and manage programs, plans, policies and internal controls. Drive the development and delivery of material for committee and approval meetings and employee communications. Develop complex and broad-based implementation strategies for communication and change management plans. Make recommendations on plan design, integration/implementation and funding options, in partnership with teams such as Operations, Accounting and FP&A. Vendor Governance : Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, serving as the primary point of contact for all employee benefits-related matters. Develop systematic ways to enhance employee experiences and vendor delivery of services to ensure consistency across the company. Initiate and lead Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for benefit providers, platforms, brokers, etc. as well as manage service requests, contracts, invoices and billing. Employee Experience: Stay current on understanding the diverse and changing needs of our workforce, HR trends, HR technology offerings and topics that impact benefits and employees. Collaborate within Human Resources and with subject matter experts and serve as the point of escalation to employee issues that arise. Partner with Development and Engagement function to identify leader and user needs and provide content for leader and user education and training. HR Policy and Compliance: Establish and communicate clear and appropriate policies related to benefits and compensation. Stay current with changing regulatory and legal requirements (federal, state, local) and recommend changes to keep CSM in compliance. Provide expertise in state and federal leave laws, including FMLA and ADA administration. Understand the impact that benefits plans and compliance have amongst other HR functions and priorities. Partner with HR peers to deliver timely and well thought out solutions. Ensure ongoing auditing of compliance. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to develop a roadmap and execution plan for compliance initiatives, including but not limited to SPDs, Plan Documents, 5500 filings, and annual 401(k) audit. Compensation: Lead and/or support ongoing planning, design, administration, and execution of compensation programs. Ensure alignment of compensation strategy and programs, including various bonus plans and programs, with desired behaviors, outcomes and business objectives for individual divisions and the company. Strive for plans and programs to be competitive, cost effective, efficient, and legally compliant. Lead effective communication of the compensation strategy and programs across the workforce to achieve the goals of attraction and retention of talent and business results. Technology and Data: Oversee and maintain optimal function of the benefits platforms and systems, which may include implementation, customization and development of, and maintenance and upgrades to, applications, systems, and modules. Understand and prepare or request various reports for distribution within required timeframes to include management reports and governmental and program compliance reports. Ensure data is accurate and that system compliance with data security and privacy requirements is met. Leadership: Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, accuracy and execution with processes, procedures and technologies. Provide recommendations and solutions and collaborate with resources to ensure the delivery of improvements. Be a visible leader and role model, ensuring the highest level of service is provided to employees, internal customers and vendors. Lead team by: selecting candidates, providing job specific learning and development, managing performance through constructive feedback, recognition and coaching, delivering performance reviews and making employment decisions. Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor's degree in business, HR or related field. 5+ years of employee benefit plan design including healthcare and retirement programs along with the associated complexities of plan administration, associated payroll processes, regulatory requirements and benefits program taxability. Experience with self-funded, qualified, and non-qualified plans, as well as significant knowledge of state and federal regulations including ERISA, SECURE 2.0, and ACA. Deep analytical skills, comfortable working with and communicating large amounts of data findings. Strong business judgment and a practical, common sense approach to getting things done in both defined and ambiguous situations. Successful record of building operational processes and procedures with a focus on continuously improving programs. Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an ability to interface with all levels of the organization and influence business leaders. Demonstrated ability to prioritize required work, project work and incoming requests, and adjust priorities as needed with a sense of urgency and positive, can-do demeanor Demonstrated ability to provide explanations and education both verbally and in written form. Positive, solution-oriented mind-set. Adaptable between working independently and executing work, and leading and coaching others. CEBS certification and compensation experience and expertise. Experience in using HRIS and time and attendance systems including UKG Pro and Workforce Management. Prior experience in an industry with a large non-exempt employee population located across multiple states. Experience with Requests for Proposal and system implementations. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
