Job Summary: The Human Resources Manager will perform a variety of human resources activities daily in order to meet the recruiting, employee relations, operations, and compliance goals of the HR department and the larger organization. He or she will be the primary contact for all benefit and leave administration but is a true "generalist" who will move through a variety of projects and tasks in any given week. The HR manager will be part of a busy three-person team that supports approximately 110 employees dispersed across Virginia and Washington, D.C. at approximately 30 different locations. The ideal candidate is organized, flexible, technologically savvy, an excellent problem solver, and able to comfortably shift between multiple projects and tasks throughout the day. Essential Functions: Become an internal expert on company policy and procedures and provide advice to employees at all levels, consistent with policy and employment law. Respond to inquiries from current and potential employees. Maintain multiple platforms of communication, including phone, text, Microsoft Teams messages, and email. Staff the main office and visit properties weekly (generally, on site 2 days per week and may telework 3 days per week) Remain abreast of applicable federal, state, and local employment law and apply to company processes and policies. Benefits - Administer all benefits, including new enrollments and annual open enrollment. Enter employee elections in Paylocity and coordinate enrollment with benefits broker. Receive and verify monthly invoice. Employee Relations - Travel throughout Wesley Housing properties 20% of the time to provide on-site assistance to employees on a variety of issues ranging from employee relations concerns to timecards, benefits and company policy. Advise supervisors on corrective action and employee discipline. Collaborate with the rest of the HR team to plan and execute employee events. Recruiting - Along with Sr. HR Coordinator, post new jobs. Schedule interviews with candidates and hiring managers. Assist hiring managers with maintaining compliant job requisition files. Draft screening questions. Monitor process for equity and effectiveness. Notify candidates who are not selected. Write and route offer letters. Train managers on process and applicable employment law. Produce weekly and monthly hiring, turnover and ad hoc reports. HRIS - Maintain benefit and leave information in Paylocity and electronic personnel files. Ensure employee elections are recorded timely, accurately, and in accordance with established processes. Develop and help communicate process improvements. Leaves - Administer employee leaves, including short term disability, worker's comp, FMLA, and personal leave. Use knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and applicable state and federal law to assist employees and maintain compliant records. Coaching and Communication - The HR Manager is responsible for listening to employee feedback and questions and coaching new and experienced managers so they can continue to grow in their effectiveness. May lead or facilitate one-on-one or small group training sessions. Social media - Work on enhancing Wesley's social media employment profile via platforms such as LinkedIn and Glassdoor Perform other duties as assigned Requirements Education and Certifications High school diploma or equivalent required. A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred (such as human resources, business administration, organizational behavior). A combination of education and progressive human resources experience may be considered in exchange for a bachelor's degree. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong oral and written communications skills. Able to de-escalate conflict, provide nonjudgmental behavioral counseling, and model sincere, professional, and collaborative written, verbal, and interpersonal communication across diverse populations. Able to produce effective business communications. Outstanding interpersonal and conflict resolution skills: able to effectively build rapport and establish trust with employees in person and remotely. 5+ years' experience as a human resources professional, with demonstrated increasing responsibility. Experience providing support to a variety of employees, from front-line to management. Excellent judgment: able to apply detailed knowledge of company policy and procedures to make independent decisions and serve as a credible resource for our employees. Able to maintain high standards with regard to confidentiality Demonstrated ability to manage change and handle multiple ongoing priorities Excellent organizational and process management skills with attention to detail Proficient in Microsoft Outlook Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Proficient with human resources information systems and able to use them to conduct daily business including applicant tracking, manage leaves, process employee changes, etc. Wesley Housing's system is Paylocity. Able to generate accurate and timely communications and written reports to support business needs Physical Job Requirements Able to remain in a stationary (standing or seated) position more than half the time May need to move about the office(s) less than half the time Able to occasionally operate a motor vehicle May need to kneel, crawl, crouch down less than half the time Must be able to regularly maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push or pull up to 40 pounds Able to operate equipment/machinery that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (ex.'s: typing, filing, etc.) more than half the time Able to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors Able to travel locally to the main office and Wesley Housing sites in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. Travel Requirements Must have regular and reliable access to transportation. This position travels locally up to 20% of the time; anticipated travel will be by car.
