Job Summary: Shift Supervisors are supervised by the Director of Nursing. They are responsible for the supervision of the nursing staff, and the care of the residences on their assigned shift. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Adjust nursing department staff as needed to provide optimal staffing for each area. Communicate changes in resident status or need, as indicated by the attending physician. Assess and evaluate residents experiencing a change in status as requested or indicated by the Charge Nurse. Monitor incident reports for accuracy and completion. Communicate necessary information regarding the shift to the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator. Is familiar with facility policies and can interpret them for staff, residents, and families. Is familiar with emergency procedures and takes charge in an emergency. Assess employees injured at work, and instruct them as indicated in gaining follow up care. Supervise nursing care on units. Start IVs and draw blood when prescribed by a physician. Counsel employees as indicated. May perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing. Only those duties and responsibilities necessary for proper job evaluation have been included. This list is not all inclusive of the total scope of the job duties to be performed. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: Graduate of a State approved School of Nursing. Current RN or LPN licensure in the State of Michigan (temporary permit may be considered). Physical ability to: Lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to assist to transfer, move, and reposition residents weighing up to 300 pounds. Push/pull carts, and chairs weighing up to 300 pounds. Ability to discern changes in resident condition. Ability to communicate with residents, employees, and families in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.
