This Position provides leadership and direction for the project implementation, construction management, and customer engagement associated with Energy Services electrical infrastructure, resiliency, reliability, energy efficiency, and mechanical equipment improvement projects across all Duke Energy services territories and beyond (services are not limited to regulated utility customers). Each project is customer specific and independently contracted. The Energy Services project implementation team will work closely with Large Account Management, Business Development, and Energy Services Design & Standards to construct projects that deliver customer value. Project size range from $250,000 to $25 million capital expenditure with implementation schedules of a few months to multi-year. This position will lead, organize and develop the project management workforce to effectively execute project implementation to ensure delivery on-time, under-budget, and in-scope. Additionally, this role will work with existing customers on development of a sales and service business implementing energy and electrical improvements at cost plus 20 percent or greater margin. Typical projects include managed services for a period of ten or more years; this role will work with the Energy Services Operations team to ensure efficient, effective, reliable service over the life of the contracted services, which will require emergency outage management support. Engineering projects include commercial, industrial, institutional, and governmental facility electrical infrastructure, backup generation, indoor and outdoor lighting, CHP, energy efficiency, power quality, reliability, and other energy related enhancements. This position will ensure the implemented design, operation and maintenance standards and specifications comply with all environmental, OSHA, state and federal regulatory requirements, and will deliver reliable, safe performance to meet contractual requirements and customer expectations. Additionally, the position is responsible for developing and maintaining multi-disciplinary relationships with external construction management companies, as well as relationships with regulated utility distribution and transmission departments to ensure our regulated solutions integrate with the utility delivery system. The role is customer facing with many of our largest load customers and is responsible for operating under multiple regulatory and non-regulated business models across the Duke territories and continental United States. The role will manage a minimum of six direct reports based on current projects and implementation of annual $100 million revenue target. Office location is shown as Raleigh, NC. However, other locations within the Duke Energy services may be considered.Responsibilities Leads the Project Implementation team to ensure engineered projects deliver reliability & quality service and are implemented on-time, under-budget, and in-scope. Manage the project implementation of all commercial, industrial, institutional and governmental facility electrical infrastructure and energy management projects. Manage and develop a diverse staff of project management, construction management, project controls & technical professionals; assure staff comply with appropriate codes and standards. Provide leadership, oversight management, delegation, and coordination to the various internal and external organizations that are providing services to the project (development, engineering, project controls, estimating, construction management, supply chain, legal, EHS, QA/QC, operations, communications, regulatory, security, fuels, transmission, etc.). Provide oversight and assessments to contingent workers and multiple construction management and A&E firms. Plan and implement appropriate levels of resourcing of the business with Duke labor, contract labor, vendor alliances, and sourcing contracts for maximum profitability and customer satisfaction. Initiates the development of plans to ensure objectives are achieved and improvement opportunities are addressed. Ensures subject matter expertise in project management and construction management are brought into the decision-making process relative to safety, environmental, regulations, codes, and standards. Establishes and communicates expectations to management and professional staff. Oversees the operations of organization and manages its compliance with financial, legal, regulatory, and state requirements. While it could include projects in any of the utility jurisdictions and associated 6 states (e.g. Florida, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, North and South Carolina), this position will primarily manage those projects managers located in the Carolinas. However, projects located outside those areas may also be directed by this team. Manages project priorities within functional area to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction. Plan the project(s) assigned to, including scope, schedule, cost, safety, and quality aspect of the project. Drive the process of project planning including scope definition, estimating, schedule formation and monitoring, cost control measures, procurement/contracting strategies, equipment selection, vendor selection, start-up and commissioning plans, and integration processes. This includes project planning and execution activities like scope definition, detailed design, construction, start-up and commissioning, turnover to Energy Services Operations, and warranty management. Develops metrics to monitor quality and performance results. Execute projects according to Plan within designed scope, cost and schedule limits. Includes objectives, stakeholders, scope, roles and responsibilities, assumptions and constraints, deliverables, WBS, schedule, external communication, contractor and supplier strategy, resource plan, budget, risk management, quality controls, safety & environmental plan, and project close out. Financial Stewardship includes maintaining responsibility for implementing projects that can be delivered on budget, in scope, and on time; maintains metrics for accuracy of project expenditures against project design estimates. Incorporates upsell opportunities that deliver on the customer's energy needs. Champions opportunities for improvements that drive efficiency, and increased profitability. Accountable for project implementation that meets contract requirements, delivers Business Development revenue and Energy Services P&L objectives. Provides input and supports development of financial and operational plans for Energy Services. Effective Leadership, Development and Mentoring of staff including project management, controls and technical roles. Provide coaching, mentoring and leadership to other career path members. Share tools, learnings, expertise in manner consistent with corporate leadership and PMCoE. Staff management responsibilities include Manage day-to-day performance of employees under functional area Provide feedback to employee on performance and develop annual performance evaluations Develop employee technical and business skills utilizing personal development planning tools and position team and individuals for growth opportunities and special assignments Basic Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Business or other technical field of study AND seven (7) years related work experience In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 7 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 11 year(s) related work experience Desired Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in Business Administration or other technical field of study AND ten (10) years related work experience Professional Engineer and/or Project Management Professional and/or Certified Energy Manager and/or General Contractor and/or Electrical Contractor Additional Preferred Qualifications Expertise in project management with associated project related work experience. Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, problem solving and financial evaluation skills for large nontraditional utility budgets ($30+ million dollar budget focused not just on cost centers but product line Profit and Loss); experience in the utility accounting and tracking of expenses and revenues. Leadership experience including staff management, employee development and motivation of large teams Big-picture, strategic thinking including ability to conceptualize new or abstract market approaches, determine how to test, and take necessary steps to deliver new strategy. Position requires strong negotiation, analytical skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong presentation skills, a consultative approach to recommending process improvements, and staying up to date on key industry trends Demonstrated effective decision-making skills, including the ability to make decisions and execute with limited information Knowledge of construction, distribution, energy management operations and the associated safety and risk mitigation requirements. Experience in the Consultative Sales approach Experience in the Commercial Business Process to make quick decisions for Business and Customer issues Working Conditions Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period.
