Position Summary: Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures. Mixes colors, oils, acrylic and other paint ingredients to obtain proper color and consistency, or thins ready mixed paints. Applies paint with brush, roller, or spray gun. Covers interior and exterior walls and ceilings of rooms with decorative wallpaper, fabric, vinyl, or similar materials. Attach dry-wall panels to the inside framework of houses or other buildings. Fills holes with plaster and tapes joints of wallboard/dry-wall. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 1. Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, brushes or steel wool. 2. Select pre-mixed paints or prepare paints to match colors by mixing coloring materials, oil, and thinning and drying substances. 3. Remove old paint from surfaces with solvents, scrapers, wire brushes, paint remover or blowtorches. 4. Fill nail holes, cracks and joints with plaster, putty or other filler. 5. Copy wood grain, marble, brick or tile effects. 6. Hang wallpaper and fabrics. 7. Prepares order form for tools and supplies necessary for painting, dry-wall, or wall covering installations. 8. Measure walls and ceilings to compute the amount of paint or wallpaper required for the job. 9. Cuts and fits wallboard to studding and joists. 10. Cuts out openings in the wall panels for electric outlets, plumbing connections, and air-conditioning units and trims the wallboard to obtain and even joint. 11. Requires performing preventive maintenance (corrosion control) on boilers, compressors, piping, and HVAC equipment. 12. Knowledgeable of building management systems known as "METASYS", performs standard duties as systems operator and can detect trouble in these systems with reasonable success at least 70% of the time. 13. Can diagnose and correct problems in Computerized Tube Delivery system (Translogic Tube System), requiring immediate responses to operational failures of varying nature with success rate of over 60%. 14. Repair to mechanical equipment, plumbing, various types of structural repair, and minor electrical repairs. 15. Performs other related job duties as requested. Qualifications: Required: High School Diploma or GED No Prior work experience Must possess valid Michigan Driver's License and be insurable under the hospital insurance program Preferred: One year of prior work experience as a Commercial Painter Certification/licensure where a written exam has been administered for Residential Builders Board
