Civil Engineering Intern - Water Resources Design Summer 2025 Greenville, SC Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is seeking a Water Resources Design Intern to join our team in May of 2025 for a 12-week internship in the Greenville, SC office. As a Water Resources Intern at ICE, you will gain valuable industry experience by working with our Water Resources team. Internships with ICE allow you to continue your education with a real-world experience that will enhance your future academic experiences. There is room for growth within our organization for dedicated civil engineering professionals. All employment offers are contingent upon the applicant successfully completing drug and background screenings. Once qualified candidates have been identified, the recruiting team will schedule interviews. This internship spans 12 weeks, beginning sometime in May and ending in August. The exact start and end dates will be determined during the recruitment process. The Water Resources Design Intern will work closely with project managers in the drainage aspects of traditional design-bid-build and alternative delivery infrastructure projects. The Water Resources Design Intern must demonstrate research skills and resourcefulness. The ideal candidate must be able to perform complex engineering functions, field data collection, and troubleshooting for a variety of water resource related projects. Responsibilities Assist senior engineer with design, contract document preparation, procurement processes and program management assistance with an emphasis on the storm water design components. Ensure that project designs meet local municipality, State DOT and DHEC requirements for storm water run-off. Work with a team of water resources engineers and environmental engineers. Perform engineering calculations and develop hydrologic and hydraulic models. Support civil design, stream restoration, and other water resources design projects. Support stormwater management programs and environmental permitting projects. Support various projects to include site assessments and wetland delineations. Assist in design preparation to include state storm water management plan requirements, drainage design activities on highway and bridge construction projects. Review documents and design work for compliance with plans and specifications. Participate in field investigations. Assist with surface water, groundwater, and soil sampling in various site settings. Aid senior staff with the preparation of technical reports, including compiling analytical data. Duties include field and office work with light travel. *Note: The position description is intended as a summary only of key duties. Other related duties may be assigned as appropriate. By the end of your internship, you will gain the confidence to independently manage project tasks and work autonomously. Qualifications Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) are required. Knowledge in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, civil design, and related areas. Ability to conduct field investigations and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients. Proficiency in AutoCAD and other engineering/modeling software. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace. Education and Experience Requirements Must be actively pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university. Academic Juniors and Seniors preferred. Prior internship experience is preferred, but not required. Students must have completed two of the following three prerequisite courses: Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Engineering Systems, and/or Transportation Planning, Operations, and Design. ICE interns are paired with more experienced staff members in order to provide guidance and support throughout the internship process. They will report directly to a team lead who will provide regular feedback, special training, guidance, evaluation, and support. The lead will provide information about their career path, as well as assisting the intern with exploring career opportunities at the firm, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources. We foster collaborative learning environment where interaction with our dedicated team of engineers encourages students to develop ideas and make mistakes. Collaborative learning also involves learning from peers and fellow interns. The primary goal of the internship is to gain as much experience as possible. While an intern may not have major tasks assigned to them, they should pay close attention to all the steps that go into completing the project. At the end of the internship, the intern should be confident to individually manage project tasks and work independently. ICE's dedicated recruiting team will assist the intern with full-time employment opportunities, once they are ready to graduate. Physical and Environmental Requirements This position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Expected Hours of Work The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office 5 days a week.
