Job Description Job Description Under general supervision, perform journey-level work in the installation, repair, remodel, and maintenance of manual and automated locks, locking systems and security devices, computerized card access systems. Duties and Responsibilities Interprets Master Keying Guide; uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the university's master key system while meeting customer requests. Assists with installations, services, and repairs of various types of locks and security devices. Assists with installing and repairing door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures. Disassembles locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts. Under supervision, cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification. Issues keys and maintains records of keys issued and returned. Under supervision of Lock Shop Supervisor, maintains records of work performed. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Assists with troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of mechanical locking and electronic key card systems. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Job Requirements High school diploma and/or GED, or 1 year of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified. In this job description. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Ability to cut and issue keys, re-key, install and repair locks and hardware. Ability to interpret, implement, and maintain pre-defined master key systems. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair both mechanical locking and electronic access control devices. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Conditions of Employment Possession of a valid New Jersey driver's license is a requirement for this job. Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Working Conditions and Physical Effort Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
