JOB SUMMARY This position is directly responsible for determining and directing the most economical, high quality mechanical design for non-standard customer orders from concept to manufacturing, field installation and operation. This position is also responsible for providing cost estimates as a basis for determining pricing strategy for quotes. This individual will also be required as needed to visit customers to negotiate the technical aspects of a project or warranty related issues. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop cost-effective mechanical designs according to customer specifications using Lightnin standard procedures and experience including costs for quotes. Work on mixer designs. Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of highly technical mixer design. Provide guidance to Inside Sales Engineers, Application Engineers and drafters on mechanical design and cost. Provide technical support for Sales and customers on topics related to Lightnin product lines. This may include travelling to customer sites to provide this support. Provide support for Warranty Service by checking designs, analyzing customer problems and implementing engineering solutions. May include travelling to installation sites to solve customer service issues. Assist Standards engineering by performing related engineering calculations for day-to-day activities and long-term projects. Two-to-four-month rotation in Design and shop assembly including seals. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must have personal traits listed below. TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE This position requires a thorough knowledge of drafting, machine design, vibrations, strength of materials, metallurgy, codes, manufacturing procedures, a general knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and strong interpersonal skills for communicating thoughts and ideas to customers and Sales. A thorough knowledge of process conditions and applications is necessary to properly engineer quality equipment. A working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, Project, Visio, Lightnin's business system, including data related to Sales Orders, inventory, items, BOM's, cost, etc., and various reports is necessary. Proficiency in cost estimating. Understanding of Lightnin's various products. LANGUAGE SKILLS Good spoken and written English. Ability to read and analyze general business documents, professional journals, technical specifications, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages and other financial data. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to create or interpret various spreadsheets, financial reports, data analysis, measurements, etc. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in mathematical or written form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. WORK ENVIROMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS General office environment, with a significant amount of time spent working on a computer. Occasional travel required EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering 3 years plus of relevant experience is preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee can be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration and loud noise level while on the production floor. The anticipated salary range is what we believe to be the likely base salary range for this position at the time of posting.
