Work Shifts 11:45 P.M - 7:45 A.M Job Description Purpose: To perform assigned duties/task and serve as support to the professional personnel providing care to the hospitalized patient. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The Nurse Aide in Intensive Care Units is charged with and responsible for: 1. Performs and/or assists with the physical care of selected/assigned patients; perform assigned procedures (e.g. Dressing changes, taking vital signs, giving enemas); records care given on designated forms and in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). 2. Reports all physical and/or emotional changes to the RN. 3. Drains body fluid receptacle as designed by the RN and record appropriately. 4. Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge process as assigned; provides post-mortem care; prepare patients for examinations/tests/procedures; participates in conferences held by nursing/health team which assess the needs of patients and plans nursing care. 5. Utilizes safe patient handling when performing range of motion, turning and positioning, assisting out of bed, utilizing the Liko lift and ambulation. 6. Follows RN/Physical Therapist guidelines with gait activities and various ambulatory aides. Assists with ambulation of patients by following with wheel chair, IV pole and/or Oxygen. 7. Provides range of motion exercises as instructed by the RN. 8. Assists with travel to bathroom/toilet as appropriate. 9. Prepares patients for meals and assists with feeding. 10. Responds to patient's call bells and requests. 11. Monitors and calibrates clinical equipment such as bed scale. 12. Administers Basic Life Support (BLS) during emergencies. 13. Carries out infection control protocols, maintain universal precautions, and ensures all rooms have Germicidal Disposable wipes. 14. Maintains inventory of necessary stock and supplies. Ensures all utility room clutter free. Ensures all out-date equipment and supplies are properly labeled, removed from storage areas. 15. Cleans and properly stores equipment and supplies after completion of work; cleans and straightens shelves. 16. Sets up room for admission and removes supplies and linen after transfer or discharge. 17. Ensures all linen cart are closed. 18. Performs other related duties as assigned. 19. Exhibits courteous and effective communication with all healthcare team members, patients, and families with respect to cultural diversity. 20. Maintains patient privacy in accordance with HIPPA rules and regulations. 21. Provides direct care to patients throughout the growth and development continuum. Minimum Qualifications 1. Graduation from elementary school. 2. Successful completion of a basic skills training program for Nurse Aides, or its equivalent.
