Position Description The Counselor provides counseling and related services to Eastern University students and provides consultation and outreach services to the Eastern University community. This is an on-ground, part-time (12-20 hours/week, determined at the time of hiring), 9-month position (academic year). Position Responsibilities Conducts intake assessments with students requesting counseling services and develops referral or treatment plans. Counsels students in psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual areas with an emphasis on supporting academic functioning. Uses primarily individual and group methods. Refers students to resources off-campus when appropriate. Assists with triage of requests and crisis response in the absence of the Director or other senior staff. Responds to counseling and mental health emergencies during normal work hours. Responds to emergencies after hours on a case-by-case basis when requested and available. When requested by the Director, provides workshops and other outreach activities on mental health, emotional/social adjustment, and academic adjustment to students enrolled in traditional undergraduate programs and to faculty and staff. Consults with faculty and staff regarding student-related psychological adjustment issues when requested by the Director. Prepares case documentation on a regular basis; prepares special reports and correspondence when needed. Submits records of contacts with students on a weekly basis. Attends supervision meetings with CAPS Director (or designated substitute). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Master's degree with PA licensure in clinical counseling or a related field and at least 2 years prior successful experience providing direct counseling service are preferred. Candidates who are on a path to licensure or unlicensed with relevant experience may be considered. Awareness of multicultural issues in mental health and readiness to engage students from diverse backgrounds are essential. Experience in a higher education setting is preferred. Must be able to climb three flights of stairs. Part-time staff who are scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week schedule are eligible for employer contribution towards the retirement plan after one year of employment. Eligibility rules apply. Adjunct faculty may make employee deferral contributions towards the retirement plan. Part-Time Graduate Assistant Coaches are eligible for participation in the Tuition Remission Coaches Program. Temporary, Contractors and Seasonal Employees: Individuals in this status are scheduled on an as-needed-basis and are not eligible for participation in the University's benefits programs.
