Job Summary The optical coating engineer's goals are to support production, development of new products, improvement of processes, and documentation in the company's state-of-the-art optical coating facility. The company is searching for an individual with a background in thin film technology. The position requires good knowledge of vacuum coating equipment and technologies (experience welcome) and awareness of common PVD tools' operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Applicant should be capable of developing and implementing new optical coatings. Having a conceptual knowledge of antireflection and high reflection coatings in UV, visible, and near IR spectral ranges. The candidate will directly support ongoing technological advancement by documenting, analyzing, reporting, and improving the production process. Duties: Support operation and troubleshooting of thin film optical coating production and other process equipment Develop and implement designs, workflow controls, and production protocols Evaluate the performance of the product to meet production specs and drive improvement. Report production process metrics, SPC, and support database traceability Promptly document recent R&D efforts, summarize, and communicate in the form of engineering reports Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), implement process changes, and train new personnel Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering, preferably with a Major in Thin films or Optics Any experience with 3+ years directly related to the industry Familiar with a variety of vacuum technologies through past work experience Direct experience with Buhler E-beam deposition hardware is a plus Good knowledge of the optical thin film coating process Experience in optical coating design and development of processes specifically for laser optics Good knowledge and experience in the metrology of optical thin films Hands-on experience with optical components Ability to handle multiple tasks, organize and prioritize workload Good communication and organizational skills Ability to work as a member of a team
