Job Seekers, Welcome to ALUMNI CAREER CENTER Physician, Hospitalist (Nocturnist) with EDRP & Recruitment/Relocation Incentive This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board Certified / Board Eligible in Internal Medicine Experience teaching/evaluating Internal Medicine residents Experience in admissions and acute care procedures Active adult inpatient care of Internal Medicine patients within the last 2 years Scholarly activity Physical Requirements: This position may require potentially long periods of continued light lifting under 15 pounds, light carrying under 15 pounds, walking less than 1 hour, standing for less than 1 hour, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, hearing (aid may be permitted), mental/emotional stability, ability to perform privileges, and independently performs physical exam as appropriate to position. Administrative Duties: Participate in staff meetings, hospital committees, and peer review process. Demonstrate effective communication to staff and leadership. Maintain VA training requirements, complete documentation in a timely manner and maintain credentials required for privileging and re-privileging. Participate in the Focused Professional Performance Evaluation (FPPE)/On-going Professional Performance Evaluation (OPPE) process. Adhere to employee health requirements. Participate in the peer review process. Adhere to Tour of Duty, log duty hours appropriately, & request leave in advance. Manage encounters & consults appropriately, document in a timely and appropriate manner, oversee relevant performance measures, and participate in quality improvement and process improvement projects. Clinical Duties: Practitioners are expected to provide adult patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, & care at the end of life. Practitioners are expected to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, and social sciences, and to apply their knowledge to patient care and the education of others. Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. Practitioners are expected to demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development and ethical practice. Education: Supervision of residents is a major duty of this position. Practitioners are expected to be effective at teaching, be able to monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision requirements. Research Duties (if applicable): Physician researchers will show an ability to identify and define significant Research and Development problems, to plan & execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.
