Job Title: Controller Reports to : Chief Financial Officer Direct reports : Yes Location: Jacksonville Office Position type: Full Time FLSA Status: Exempt THIS POSITION IS IN OFFICE Job Summary: The Controller holds a senior leadership position within the Accounting/Finance team and will work closely with the CFO to enhance and improve the Company's accounting and finance functions. This position is responsible for managing the accounting team and for the integrity of the financial controls of the Company. The Controller will maintain an adequate system of accounting records and administer a comprehensive set of controls to mitigate risk and assure the accuracy of the company's reported financial results. The Controller will oversee the production and distribution of internal, NAIC Statutory, and US GAAP financial statements and will work closely with management, regulators, external auditors and tax advisors. The Controller may also assist the CFO in overseeing and contributing to the reinsurance program, payments and reimbursements to reinsurers and all items associated with reinsurance accounting. Job Description/Essential Functions Oversee the preparation and the filing of NAIC Statutory Quarterly and Annual Statements and manage the internal review for these documents Monitor and ensure timely identification of and compliance with evolving accounting guidance and interpretations from FASB, NAIC, and other bodies Prepare technical memoranda that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner Communicate and explain relevant accounting treatments and guidance to the management team, emphasizing their implications for decisions and strategy Coordinate with the actuarial department to ensure that loss reserves are completely and accurately recorded as part of the monthly close process Coordinate with the independent investment manager to ensure investments are completely and accurately recorded as part of the monthly close process Manage communications with external auditors regarding audited financial statements and accounting issues to ensure auditor agreement with company decisions on accounting policies and disclosures Assist in the coordination and preparation of annual NAIC Statutory and US GAAP audited financial statements, including drafting audit reports Research and prepare responses to regulator inquiries, and ensure all periodic regulatory filings are completed on time, taking a lead role in preparation for regulatory financial examinations Design, implement and maintain comprehensive accounting policy documents to improve clarity and consistency Implement and maintain reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements Prepare and review monthly and quarterly internal financial statements and other management analyses as requested Prepare quarterly statutory and GAAP basis tax provisions and work with external tax advisory and compliance firm to facilitate the preparation of the company's tax returns Continually assess the close process including re-engineering to reduce the time to close the financial period Participate in other projects as required Other miscellaneous duties as assigned Skills/Requirements/Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting Certified Public Accountant designation strongly preferred Minimum of 10 years of Florida Property and Casualty statutory accounting experience with progressively increasing supervisory responsibilities Property and Casualty Reinsurance experience in FL preferred but not required In depth knowledge of insurance, catastrophe event, and quota share reinsurance accounting Master level Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office and database products General ledger data extraction and aggregation Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, organizational, interpersonal, analytical and supervisory skills with the ability to tailor to targeted audience Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently to unchangeable timelines SQL data extraction a plus Creativity and ability to develop innovative solutions to problems Considerable experience in managing others and strong leadership skills Ability to work with documents and spreadsheets requiring close vision EEOC Compliance: Olympus Insurance Company is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Pay Range: $160,000 - $190,000 per year
