Job Description:We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator or Estimator with a strong background in civil construction and Caltrans projects to join our team. This is a primarily remote position, but the candidate must reside in Northern California and be available for 5-6 days of in-office work per month. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing competitive bids for Caltrans and other public infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, and roadworks.Key Responsibilities:Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil construction projects, with a specific focus on Caltrans projects (highways, bridges, grading, paving, etc.).Conduct quantity take-offs, pricing labor, materials, and equipment, and develop comprehensive project schedules.Collaborate with the project team to ensure alignment between estimates and project scope.Work remotely to manage bids and estimates while maintaining availability for 5-6 office days per month.Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain competitive pricing for project bids.Ensure that all estimates adhere to Caltrans standards, procedures, and requirements.Attend occasional site visits and pre-bid meetings to assess project conditions.Provide cost models and risk analysis for review by management.Keep abreast of market conditions, material costs, and labor rates to ensure competitive and accurate bids.Utilize construction estimating software to develop cost proposals.Assist with the transition of successful bids to the project management team, ensuring clarity in project objectives and cost breakdowns.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).5+ years of experience in estimating for civil construction, specifically with Caltrans projects.Familiarity with Caltrans standards and bidding procedures.Ability to work remotely while residing in Northern California and attend office in-person 5-6 days per month.Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., HCSS, B2W) and Microsoft Office Suite.Strong understanding of civil construction methods and cost components (labor, materials, equipment).Experience interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.Excellent communication, organizational, and negotiation skills.Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote work environment while managing multiple projects.Knowledge of local building regulations and permitting processes.Design-build and public works experience is a plus.Benefits:Competitive salary commensurate with experience.Remote work flexibility with occasional in-office prehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.Paid time off and holidays.401(k) with company match.Opportunities for career growth and professional development.
