In this role, your primarily focus will be on providing technical support and expertise to support projects in the East Business Unit. In addition, it would also include diverse opportunities supporting wastewater projects in other business units to support BC's National Wastewater Practice. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Function in a supporting role as a wastewater process engineer to support Senior Process Engineers Subject matter practitioner (SMP) or expert (SME) in the areas of wastewater treatment, wastewater process modeling, process controls, and development of digital solutions for process optimization. Key Responsibilities Process Engineering: Provide expert technical support on wastewater treatment processes, including low dissolved oxygen (DO) systems. Conduct process modeling simulations evaluations using industry-standard software (e.g., Sumo, GPS-X, BioWin) to carry out specific engineering tasks. Design, optimize, and evaluate wastewater treatment processes to make recommendations for wastewater clients projects. Perform kinetics studies and parameter estimation for biological processes. Digital Twin Development: Lead the development and implementation of digital twin solutions for wastewater treatment clients Integrate process knowledge with data-driven approaches to create accurate and useful digital representations of treatment systems Collaborate with software developers and data scientists to improve digital twin capabilities Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning: Apply machine learning and AI techniques to optimize treatment processes, predict system behavior, and improve decision-making Develop and implement data pipelines for collecting, cleaning, and analyzing plant operational data Create predictive models for various aspects of plant performance, including influent characterization and effluent quality Research and Innovation: Stay current with the latest developments in water/wastewater treatment technologies and digital solutions Contribute to the company's internal R&D efforts in digital water technologies Participate in writing research proposals and grant applications to secure funding for innovative projects. Work with the wastewater practice leaders and research and innovation teams on technology transfer to appropriate markets and clients Client Engagement: Work closely with clients to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions. Present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers for ongoing projects and identification of new business prospects Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop creative solutions and approaches to accommodate clients' goals and objectives Provide support to business development or pursuit activities, including involvement in pre-positioning meetings, proposal development, client interviews, identification of winning sales messages. Attend and present on state-of-the-art wastewater treatment projects and thought leadership ideas at local, regional, and national conferences. Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including process engineers, data scientists, and software developers Mentor junior staff in both process engineering and digital technologies Contribute to the company's knowledge base and best practices in digital wastewater solutions People Management: Actively foster knowledge management. Participate in coaching opportunities, career development planning, learning/training, and development of junior staff. Engineering Standards: Collaborates with digital solutions services to develop and implement wastewater digital solutions to support project needs. Assists in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree (Master's or Doctoral) in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering preferred.
