Position Summary: An estimator is responsible for performing building material take-offs for residential designs that comply with company policies and local building material codes. Review construction documents and correct potential inaccuracies to material lists. Prepare take-off documents for contractor proposals and work with Sales Representatives regarding all aspects of the plan. Position Requirements: The incumbent must be flexible and adaptable to the changes that rapidly affect the job daily. A solid background in building material take-offs and plan comprehension along with a strong attention to detail. An accurate knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the building construction industry. Effective communication and nomenclature understanding particularly with Contractors, residential customers, vendors, and Sales Associates is required. Must be organized while being responsive to short duration deadlines. Must be able to work alone or collaborate for the betterment of the team and use basic math. Additionally, the incumbent needs a strong understanding of the materials and applications of lumber used to build homes. Duties Include: Read and understand construction plans and produce an accurate estimate of materials for the requested job Understand building design, building materials, and construction terms Demonstrate customer service skills, building and retaining relationships with co-workers and vendors Determine needs from structural, engineered wood, I-joist and engineered layouts Communicate with Salespeople about their take-off status and ensure there is a clear understanding of the estimated project being delivered to the customer Regularly use math, and various computer programs including but not limited the MS Office Suite Understand and be proficient in window and door quoting software Keep project tracking software up to date with returned plans and quote Communicate with Salespeople about their take-off status and ensure there is a clear understanding of the estimated project being delivered to the customer Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and pricing
