Job Purpose:Medical TechnologistsMedical Technicians, and the Alvin C. York VAMC is seeking two (2) onsite Full Time Medical TechnologistsMedical Technicians to provide Clinical Laboratory generalist duties in supporting the healthcare services to the Veterans who receive healthcare treatment at these facilities. At least one (1) year of experience working as a Medical TechnologistMedical Technician at an acute care facility is required. Experience at the Department of Veterans Affairs will be an asset.Duration of Employment:11202024 - 11192025 plus 4 Option yearsHours for ServiceShifts:Staffing and shift requirements: Seven days a week to include weekends and Federal HolidaysShift will be based upon needs of the service or when there are acute staffing needs, with a two-week notice to change scheduled toursNashville Campus:EveningNight Shift- 3:30pm to 7:00 am, seven days a week. (Coverage on the weekends and holidays will be required on an alternating basis on the same schedule as VA staff; frequency could change)Alvin C. York VA Medical Center, located at 3400 Lebanon Rd, Murfreesboro, TN 37129Degree Requirements, Skills & Qualifications:Medical Technologist:Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory or a related scienceAmerican Medical Technologist or American Society for Clinical Pathology CertificationBasic Life Support (BLS) certificate1 year of experience in an acute care facilityIndependent Judgment and responsibilityConfidence in Technical skillsUS CitizenshipProficiency in written and spoken English languageMedical Technician:Associate degree in medical laboratory or a related scienceAmerican Medical Technologist or American Society for Clinical Pathology CertificationBasic Life Support (BLS) certificate1 year of experience in an acute care facilityIndependent Judgment and responsibilityConfidence in Technical skillsUS CitizenshipProficiency in written and spoken English language Duties and Responsibilities:Provide patient testing and preservation of specimens for later analysisPerform stat and routine testing in the laboratory at both the Nashville and Murfreesboro campuses in the areas of hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, basic microbiology and blood bankSend out testing required on a STAT basisPerforms steps of analysis for a full range of standard, routine and specialized tests including instrument maintenance and performance checks, preparation of reagentsmedia, calibrationcalibration verification of assays, and quality control testingFollow all Clinical Laboratory protocols and procedures in accordance with local, accrediting agency, and regulatory authority standards.Participate in routine Proficiency Testing on a rotating basisPerform required testing in blood bank and issue blood and blood products as requested and ordered by physiciansRequest blood and blood products from the American Red Cross should the need arise under applicable TVHS purchase orderMust be able to use the computer system and enter patient results in the computer systemMeet all Tennessee Valley Healthcare requirements to include the Privacy Act, HIPAA and Patient Safety rules, and all confidentiality rights of patientsAdditional Qualifying InformationAll procedures are to be done in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth for beneficiaries of the Department of Veterans AffairsAll applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
