Mark Thomas has an immediate opening for a Grant Writer to join the Business Development team! The Grant Writer is responsible for "start to finish" development, coordination, and submission of multiple custom grant applications and proposals for public works, transportation, and parks and recreation clients. This includes writing executive summaries, budgets, budget narratives, timelines/charts, project schedules, project scope of work, application narrative, letters of support, required forms, etc. The Grant Writer will also research and understand upcoming funding opportunities in the public sector from state legislation to USDOT and Caltrans projects to prepare for grants submissions from our client partners. Ultimately this position develops and completes project proposals in response to grant funding requests for public agencies to improve the communities in which we all live. RESPONSIBILITIES Manages timelines and the overall progression of submission to ensure the on-time completion of high quality, responsive and compliant proposal applications Prepares and compiles all components of each grant submission and ensure that the proposal is formatted, organized, and submitted in accordance with established requirements Continuously develops and maintains a strong working knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations in the transportation, parks, and public works spaces Facilitates successful grant applications for each agency client and facilitates opportunities for funded collaboration among agency clients Creates and maintains professional relationships with client partners Understands the goals and funding priorities of the sponsor, evaluates program content and requirements of the funding opportunity, and develops a proposal strategy and course of action Assembles and writes persuasive content Provides guidance and leadership by evaluating and making suggestions for improvements in the written funding proposal as needed QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in English, Creative Writing, Communications, or relevant area of study 2+ years of professional grant writing experience, with a strong background in research or creative project proposal development Experience writing grants for public works and transportation preferred Knowledge of public grant funding programs from California Senate Bills, USDOT projects, etc. Demonstrated success in writing winning grant proposals Excellent research, written, and verbal communication skills Ability to work and build relationships with agency/client partners to deliver the grant product Ability to anticipate and manage requirements and competing deadlines, gather information, perform research, and resolve problems promptly to maximize efficiency *Qualified candidates need to submit a writing sample with their resume to be considered. The base compensation range for this position is $32.69 - $50.00 per hour.
