A recognized nonprofit services organization in New York City is looking to add a new Paralegal to their team in the Bronx.Responsibilities:The Paralegal will:Assist the Law Manager with data entry and maintenance, including:Opening and closing cases Maintaining and updating case detailsScanning filesInitiating conflict checksGenerating routine reportsScan and distribute incoming mail and manage the preparation and sending of outgoing mailManage court-ordered service of documents via mail, email, and faxAssist with messenger assignments that include field deliverypickups and service of legal papersSupport with client intake, including: Screenings referralsAssisting with completing client intake forms and releasesRegistering and scheduling clients for appointments and interviewsIntermediate conflict checksUnit Law Manager file maintenance and updatesReferring clients, when applicable, to outside agencies and servicesOffice reception and switchboard coverage, providing general information and assistance to visitors, guests, clients, vendors, etc.Perform other job band functions, as neededQualifications:High School Diploma GEDComputer savvyProficiency in Word ProcessingSolid problem solving and time management skillsGreat interpersonal skillsExcellent communication skillsAbility to work independently as well as collaboratively on a teamDesired Skills:1+ year of experience in a Legal or other relevant work (paid or unpaid) environmentAssociate's andor Bachelor's DegreeExperience in andor commitment to advocacy on behalf of low-income people
