Salary: $15.75 Hourly Location : Bloomington, IN Job Type: Temporary Part-Time (29 Hours or less a week) Department: Sanitation Opening Date: 10/14/2024 Closing Date: 10/28/2024 11:59 PM Eastern FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: N/A Typical Work Schedule:: 4:30-until end of routes Position Reports to:: Crew Leader Supervises Staff:: No Description Incumbent serves as Laborer for the department of Sanitation, with the primary responsibility of maintaining positive interactions with the public and the successful completion of daily routes. Duties Empties trash cans and loads bags of trash onto back of Sanitation truck, as required. Loads trash into packer on assigned routes. Labor on trash, yard waste, and recycling crews. Inspects department vehicles and equipment, and performs weekly maintenance, including washing, greasing, and checking fluid levels and tires. Ensures the cleanliness of collection sites by picking up stray pieces of refuge. Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment. Performs related duties as assigned. Job Requirements Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of equivalent (GED): Or combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Familiarity with city ordinances pertaining to refuge collections. Familiarity with shop mechanics and ability to perform basic inspections and maintenance on department vehicles and equipment. Ability to follow daily instructions from department superiors. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle. Difficulty of Work and Personal Work Relationship Moderate physical effort is exerted by incumbent in the set up and operation of equipment, including bending, stooping, and movement of extremities necessary to handle equipment controls. Moderate physical effort is frequently required for regular periods of time. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Incumbent performs majority of duties out of doors, in varying weather conditions, including temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees, and is periodically exposed to excessive noise, dirt, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes. Safety precautions must be used at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Possible exposure to: •all types of weather (rain, snow, etc.) and temperature conditions (down to 10 degrees below zero) •dust, dirt, mud, hazardous chemicals, potentially infectious substances •traffic and vehicle and equipment exhaust fumes •excessive noise Personal Work Relationships Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including co-workers, City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public.
