As a HALO Flight Safety Certification Engineer, you will ensure that that astronauts live, exercise, eat, rest, prepare for missions, and conduct research while visiting the Deep Space Gateway maintain the safety of both the crew and the HALO Module. The pressurized living quarters will provide docking ports for visiting vehicles and serve as the backbone for command and control and power distribution across DSG. Main Responsibilities: The successful candidate will support any or all of the following activities: Support the development and the review of HALO safety data pack for submittal to the DSG Safety Review Panel for safety reviews as part of the certification process for the HALO module. Provide technical support to HALO subsystems for the interpretation of safety requirements and the preparation of the safety review data packages. Support Safety Review Panel review activities as requested Perform preliminary assessment of HALO module and subsystem safety data packages for readiness for DSG SRP review. Track and process DSG SRP action items responses and safety verifications closeouts. Upload of documentation in NASA databases. Assess safety analyses and safety compliance data packages prepared by subcontractor for HALO module subsystems for compliance with DSG-RQMT-001and provide detailed written feedback when/where necessary Support safety review meetings as Operations Safety panel expert. Review the implementation of entries in the NASA Operations Control Agreement Database (OCAD); Support NASA in the review of DSG Change Requests relevant to Safety requirements. Execute any other safety engineering related task upon request of the HALO program and/or DSG SRP Chair Provide support to the DSP SRP Chairperson for the aspect associated to resolution of technical issues and conduction of safety reviews. Support, as required, human spaceflight safety related interface activities with DSG partners, pre-Stage Operations Readiness Review meetings, preparation and processing of safety NCRs, technical issues discussions, etc. Prepare reports on the executed safety engineering activities. Prepare SRP reports as required to program, and executive leadership as required This position may be filled in one of the following locations: Dulles, VA, Merrit Island, FL, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, Gilbert, AZ, Redondo Beach, CA Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in engineering with 8 years experience or Masters Degree with 6 years' experience Relevant experience in the design and engineering of safety critical systems. Hands-on knowledge of the safety analyses and methodologies Experience in human spaceflight safety with emphasis on the application of DSG and/or ISS safety requirements and processes Flight safety analysis experience Knowledge of DSG and/or ISS systems, subsystems and payloads, of DSG and/or ISS safety requirements and their related implementation Extended understanding of the hazard which are intrinsic of a system and /or induced by space operations, and the way they are eliminated or controlled. Guidance navigation and control analysis including trajectory and mission simulation and design Knowledge of the way safety data are generated, validated and retained in support of the DSG and/or ISS program safety certification Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Configuration Management Familiarity with space product assurance practices is an advantage Capacity to handle complex situations and complex environment Extensive knowledge of system safety engineering principles, methods and processes Knowledge of NASA safety certification process, including verification methods and procedures Knowledge of ISS operations environment. Salary Range: $114,900 - $199,600 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
