Job Description The job opening is for a full-time RandD engineer to conduct research and development in the area of head development for Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR). Responsibilities can include the design of the optical system, including a planar waveguide, a mode converter, a laser diode, and a near-field transducer; characterization of the optical system, initiating and developing intellectual property; and publishing and presenting scientific results at conferences. Qualifications Minimum of Ph.D degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field. Industrial experience is desired but not required. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:modeling of planar lightwave circuits, which includes waveguide, mode converter, and/or grating couplers; modeling of plasmonic devices; and design of optical characterization tools for optical devices. Demonstrated ability to lead a project in research and/or advanced development is desirable. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment are essential.
