Job Summary: Responsible for providing technical support and patient services for the Department of Anesthesia and the Perioperative Services areas. Provides direct and indirect patient care services to the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. Supports and participates in continuous quality improvement activities. Essential Functions: Performs daily preventive maintenance on anesthesia and monitoring equipment per manufactured established guidelines. Cleans and restocks specialty equipment, i.e., anesthesia machines and all related items. Able to take apart portions of the anesthesia machine and replace sensors to help troubleshoot issues. Notifies Bio-Med, Materials Management, Charge Nurse and anesthesiologist regarding malfunctioning equipment and arranges for replacements as needed. Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment and identifies potential areas of concern with equipment wear and tear. Collaborates with other team members and Anesthesia and Periop leadership on suggestions for new or replacement equipment. Makes recommendations for adjustments to par levels quarterly with Materials Management. Conducts inventory and orders items as required. Checks dated supplies and removes out of date items from service. Assists anesthesiologist in administration of anesthesia as needed. Assists anesthesiologist as requested to include starting IV's (when able), maintenance of IV fluids, priming lines, setting up the fluid warmer, setting up "A" lines and pulmonary arterial lines. Assists with cleaning, restocking Operating Rooms and processing equipment when necessary. Accounts for anesthesia equipment on loan throughout the hospital. Moves anesthesia machine to other areas as needed, ie. Radiology. Facilitates processing of scopes (Bronch) by Endoscopy and helps coordinate repair of damaged scopes. Communicates with the anesthesiologists, CRNAs, other team members and sales representatives to update new equipment and supplies needed for the Operating Room and patients. Attends mandatory inservices and continuing education programs to meet standards set by Anesthesia, FHH and federal and state regulatory bodies. Maintains a knowledge of Malignant Hyperthermia, an anesthesia emergency. Maintains knowledge of emergency equipment ie. Lifepak, Code cart and equipment and supplies used for anesthesia. Actively engages in departmental efforts to promote retention of staff and provide for a high level of employee morale. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of anesthesia supplies and equipment preferred. Knowledge of medical and surgical asepsis and infection control principles. Verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Good interpersonal relationship skills. Ability to work under stressful and changing conditions in a calm, productive and flexible manner. Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required: • High school graduate or equivalent. • One (1) year of prior experience as an Anesthesia Technician or two (2) years experience in the Operating Room preferred. • CPR Certification required. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable. Hourly range: $17.29 - $25.60
