Job Description: Basic Functions: This position provides Tier 2 (escalated) technical support and service restoration for daily operations and project efforts in a complex, distributed computing environment. He/she performs a broad range of IT support services: PC and Mac, mobile device, software, projector, and phone system. Work assignments include issues involving multiple components (e.g., network, operating systems) and integration of components. Leads project implementations such as: upgrades to multiple workstations; planning, testing, and deploying technology; and integration with backend and departmental services. Collaborates with team members and customers and contributes to efforts to develop, design, implement, and continuously improve systems. Education & Experience: A minimum of Bachelor's degree in computer science is preferred. Two (2) years of current or recent documented work experience troubleshooting software/hardware problems with Macintosh and PC based systems. A skills assessment may be required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The Tier 2 - Computer Technician will have current knowledge, skills and abilities relating to instructional and administrative computing systems including detailed knowledge and experience with the Macintosh platform and Windows platform in an instructional setting. He/she will have detailed knowledge and experience with microcomputer hardware, software, and peripherals such as: printers, scanners, digital cameras, peripherals, and related instructional and administrative hardware. This position requires the willingness to gain knowledge in other related areas as dictated by changes in the instructional environment. He/she will be able to troubleshoot complex computer problems. He/she will be familiar with educational software and be able to troubleshoot peripheral hardware. This position requires developed verbal and written communication skills and problem solving skills. The Tier 2-Computer Technician must establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, the public, and District staff. This position requires a valid PA driver's license, with appropriate insurance coverage limits, and reliable transportation. Authority & Responsibilities: [(E) Designates Essential Functions] Provide Tier 2 support in the resolution of technical issues for the District. (E) Installs system software, instructional/curriculum software and peripheral driver software, testing each and performing conflict resolution tasks with system extensions until a master system is created. (E) Demonstrates familiarity with District software packages and system software and will continue to upgrade his/her skills to stay current with changing technology. (E) Responsible for the general maintenance and troubleshooting of all instructional systems. Makes minor software and hardware repairs as needed and confers with the Director of Instructional Technology to decide which systems go to which commercial vendors for more complex repairs. (E) Takes daily computer problem requests, prioritizes the requests, and implements solutions/repairs for all instructional systems. (E) Assists the Director of Instructional Technology in designing, implementing, and updating workshops for building based computer coaches and teaching staff. Develops schedules for and implements the summer maintenance of classroom systems on a planned rotation. (E) Regularly produces, updates, and distributes troubleshooting guides for District staff. (E) Assists the Network Administrators in troubleshooting network problems and network installations. Advises the Director of Instructional Technology and offers recommendations regarding current and future needs related to instructional and administrative computer systems. (E) Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work with people of various backgrounds with all levels of technical knowledge. (E) Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school. (E) Manages and administers assigned VoIP and analog voice communication infrastructure including capacity/feasibility planning, new installations, upgrades, configuration, feature functionality testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, back-up systems, security procedures/protocols, operating procedures and guidelines and user connectivity. (E) Assists in the planning, installation, and maintenance of television distribution and closed-circuit systems including satellite dish, security systems, and commercial cable reception. (E) Services and maintains all public address, intercom, and sound systems in all district buildings including the high school athletic field public address and coaching headphone systems. (E) In-district travel is required for the purpose of on-site hardware and software troubleshooting and repair. (E) Performs other functions as directed by the Director of Instructional and Administrative Technology or designee (E) Physical Requirements: MEDIUM- Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
