Employment Status: Full-Time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Calendar: 168 Days Requirements: Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record Department: Support Staff/ Operations Primary Work Location: District/ Local Region Pay: Column B, starting at $17.50 Job Summary : The job of Driver was established for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes to and from area vocational schools and various other student programs. Trips will be made in the school van; ensuring vehicle operation is in a safe operating condition; ensuring safety of students at all times. Essential Job Functions An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: Advises students and other passengers of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing established guidelines and maintaining passenger safety. Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations (e.g. road hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation. Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from school van during normal transport and emergency situations. Cleans assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle. Drives school van for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. gauge levels, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines. Prepares a variety of written and verbal reports (e.g. field trips reports, incident reports, inspections records, passenger misconduct, mileage logs, student counts, routing information, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines. Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer, printer, calculator, and copier. Abilities Interpreting educational implications of evaluation results, designing interventions, and providing specially designed instruction. Handle challenging student behaviors and be ready to assist with student needs Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, teachers, parents, and the public. May be required to work outdoors for special events depending on assignment. Effectively welcome and embrace differences among employees and students.
