Welding Engineer Needed for Global Company Nesco is partnering with a leading, global provider of engineered systems and industrial controls for multiple industries in its search for a Welding Engineer. This role would be supporting a long-standing organization, which prides itself as a subject matter expert of turbine-generator applications and system integration systems, including integrated design, engineering, manufacturing, and fabrication. Role Details: Permanent position with full benefit package Available due to company growth Onsite in Altamont, NY Flexible hourly schedule during business hours Salary $75-95K, with flexibility for the right candidate As the Welding Engineer, you will ensure welding decisions and improvements are implemented, and standardized welding practices and procedures are followed. This position will also be responsible for training and coaching others in their welding craft while ensuring best practices are followed. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Creates welding techniques and procedures to guide production and welding personnel on specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements that involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post-heating requirements. Train welders and manufacturing team on proper welding techniques and best practices. Develop welding qualification testing for certifications. Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification. Work closely with design, tooling, and engineering to improve welded designs for manufacturing. Perform statistical process and root cause analyses. Define weld machine/specification requirements. Accurately report problems, solutions, and results, in concise written and oral communications. Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards. Outlines plans and conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures. Develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, equipment and procedures. Prepares technical reports as a result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations. Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes. To be considered for this role, the Welding Engineer should have: Strong background in hands-on welding along with a solid understanding of welding theory and welding processes. Previous experience in a machining and/or welding manufacturing environment. Experience with brazing, joining, and metallographic interpretations. Experience in welding and brazing procedure development and/or testing. Knowledge and experience in primarily semi-automatic and manual processes, weld prep and plasma cutting. Knowledge and ability about how to cut, bend, drill, tap, and other similar operations required to fabricate intricate assemblies. Experience in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and/or other technical material and/or then translating into practical procedural instructions. Tooling design experience for welded assemblies to reduce part distortion and improve part consistency. Understanding of weld strength testing methodologies, standards, and data acquisition systems used to make informed welding decisions (ASTM E8, E399, E704) Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions. Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve critical issues in a timely manner. Self-motivated with strong attention to detail Training/coaching skills and experience Proficient with computer and information technology (MS products) Knowledge of Six Sigma, process engineering, and Lean manufacturing principles Familiarity with applicable health and safety regulations Prior experience interfacing with a quality management system, ISO9001, NQA-1, etc Bachelor's degree in welding or materials engineering, or another related field 3-5 years of relevant experience. Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand.
