Sr. Product Engineer - US - Apex, NC Sr. Product Engineer The Blueprint (Role Profile) Reporting to the Sr. Project Engineer, the Sr. Product Engineer works with cross functional teams, is responsible for new and existing product designs, and drives development from concept to production implementation for manufacturing. This position utilizes 3D CAD Software to create, modify and evaluate product designs via 3D models, assemblies and detail drawings. Come build your future with us! The Build (Responsibilities) Research and development of new products and related components from concept to production. Participation in multi-functional product development teams with Marketing and Product Management for the development and specification of new product concepts. Use working knowledge of metals, plastics, forging, machining, grinding, forming and injection molding to develop and design components to meet product specifications when manufactured in a high volume production environment. Work with a highly creative Industrial Design team to invent and develop innovative product concepts. Create smart, innovative solutions to mechanical design challenges. Communicate with suppliers, manufacturing engineering and operations for the specification and sourcing of raw materials, semi-finished products and finished products. Resolve issues and optimize designs for manufacturability and efficiency. Ensure designs are cost efficient and manufacturable. Lead and contribute significantly in efforts to identify and determine product requirements, generate product models, assemblies and drawings, and develop and manage full product design documentation - including product specifications and testing requirements for performance and durability. Go above and beyond to ensure design clarity and completeness in engineering work related to designs, drawings, tests and validation. Design and develop prototypes with scopes ranging from specific concepts to comprehensive, functional products. Own and/or support essential design aspects such as specifications, 3D modeling, Finite Element Analysis, etc. Execute design validation process through prototyping, field & lab testing, fixture design and design-of-experiments. Oversee pilot builds and initial production runs of newly designed products. Lead, facilitate and/or participate in cross-functional meetings and design reviews with peers and other talented engineering teams. Work closely with the Project Management Office team to ensure project schedules are achieved. Actively drive NPD projects with strong sense of urgency and action. The Toolbox (Qualifications) B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution. Years of Experience: 7+ years of mechanical design experience; product development experience is a plus Understanding of design of sheet metal, forged and injection molded parts is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with domestic and international cross-functional associates. Innovative thinker - able to envision new and better ways to do things. Experience in executing complex problem solving techniques related to design/technical issues. Good instincts and sound judgment for mechanical and structural design. Excellent analytical skills, ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple concurrent tasks. Experience with CAD software - ProE/CREO, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc. ProE/CREO is preferred Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma a plus. Demonstrated ability to move design changes from concept to production floor. Working knowledge of various manufacturing and finishing processes (injection molding, machining, casting, forging, heat treatment, anodizing, powder coat, etc.), tolerances, fits & finishes, and GD&T. Familiarity with PPAP, DFA, DFM, DVP&R, DFMEA and PFMEA. At Apex Tool Group ( we're passionate about innovation.
