EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Microbiology) in Long Island City, NY. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees. Experienced analysts are welcomed to apply.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Preparation and analysis of microbiological samples for fungus (air, surface, and bulk materials - viable and non-viable samples) and bacteria (water)Spore trap (cassette) analysis, environmental samples (tape lifts, swabs and bulk) analysis via Direct Exam, and water sample analysis via coliform, legionella, and heterotrophic plate count methodsRecord data in a specified mannerSample preparation and pH Adjustments and water activity testingMaintain and troubleshoot equipmentPerform quality assurance/quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manualAdditional duties include approving final reports following quality control and client interactionsMay be required to cross train in other areas of the laboratory to meet business demandsRequirements:High School Diploma, GED, or Associates' degreeSome environmental microbiology lab experience is a plus, but not requiredExperience with spore traps, direct microscopic exam, food testing, food microbiology, or other culture-based microbiology, bacteriology, or mycology is a plusMust be able to multi-task and adhere to requirements of the Quality Management SystemGood communication and interpersonal skills are requiredMust be able to pay close attention to detail and follow standard laboratory practices regarding quality control, laboratory equipment use and maintenance and documentation proceduresMust understand custody client confidentialityMust be able to distinguish between colors in order to perform analysisMust be able to work independently and with a teamMust be able to work well under pressure and meet client deadlinesMust have good computer skills both in typing and MS OfficeAvailable Shift:Tuesday to Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Training schedule to start will be Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For consideration all candidates must apply through our careers website: EMSL offers full time benefits: medical, dental, 401(k), voluntary benefits, paid time off, holiday pay and a flexible spending account.
