DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is a seeking a cardiothoracic transplant surgeon to support the cardiothoracic transplant program at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (BSLMC). The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery and Baylor College of Medicine are committed to excellence in surgical care, education and research. Ideally situated in the heart of the world's largest medical center, the 180 faculty members of the Department practice in the Texas Medical Center at iconic institutions, including BSLMC, Texas Children's Hospital, Ben Taub General Hospital, and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC). The BCM Division of Cardiothoracic Transplant and Circulatory Support performs a high volume of heart and lung transplants annually at two affiliated hospitals. The heart transplant program at MEDVAMC was initiated in 2022, making it just the sixth VA Medical Center in the nation to offer heart transplant to veterans. BSLMC, also home to the Texas Heart Institute (THI), is a renowned quaternary medical center with a pioneering tradition in cardiovascular surgery. The cardiothoracic transplant program at BSLMC is rapidly growing, having completed over 100 lung transplants in academic year 2024. The program is a leader in the field of donor after cardiac death (DCD) lung transplant and DCD heart transplants. Substantial resources will be available to the successfully recruited candidate to further grow and develop a nationally prominent clinical and research program in cardiothoracic transplant. The Division trains 15 cardiothoracic surgery residents and advanced cardiothoracic transplant fellows and maintains a robust research program in clinical, translational, and basic science research. Minimum Qualifications Ideal candidates will have an established track record of clinical excellence in cardiothoracic transplant. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgery including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, aortic surgery, and transcatheter procedures. Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching cardiothoracic surgery residents and advanced fellows and leading clinical and translational research efforts. ABTS board certification or board eligibility is required, and the candidate must qualify for a full and unrestricted Texas medical license. An established track record in clinical research is preferred.
