About the RoleEpiphany School seeks a School Nurse who will support students for grades pre-kindergarten to fifth grade starting in October 2024. This position is a full-time, exempt, year-round, administrator position reporting to the Director of Finance & health professional will oversee all of the school's health-related matters, including its continual health response to the COVID-19 virus. This position will require coordination with families, employees and local and state health officials. Additionally, this person will work with the current health and administrative staff and families to coordinate aspects of the school's daily life such as administering medications to students, coordinating mandatory health training for new hires, and recertification training for those who need it.The individual who will be successful in this role will uphold Epiphany School values, bring a growth mindset, delight in working with elementary-aged children, and be able to serve as the school's health expert, consulting on school health policies and procedures, monitoring changes in recommended health best practices, and implementing and communicating changes internally and externally to keep our community healthy and safe.This is a full-time, exempt, year-round position, reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations. Location:The person in this role must work in-person on the school campus in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Epiphany School does not cover or reimburse relocation costs and/or expenses. Standard work hours are typically Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm. Staff meetings typically run through 5:00pm on Wednesdays (dates will be communicated ahead of time). This position may require infrequent evening and weekend work to support school community events such as the school auction. What You'll DoPrimary ResponsibilitiesTriage, assess and address student and/or staff illnesses and injuries, including administrating medications, first aid and CPR, consistent with State laws and health assessments, including triage for students, referral and follow up, treatment and administration of care for minor injuries and ailments.Delegate administration of medications to the extent appropriate under State law/regulations; monitor medication administration by other school staff; and administer medications when required by the situation and student health needs.Monitor student health records and data, including immunizations, documentation of medication administrations, confidential documents, health alert files and State reports.Follow communication protocols for the school community explaining how the school will implement health-related policies/guidelines/orders.Dispense, with parental written consent, over-the-counter medications and/or prescription an emergency, perform activities such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Epi Pen.Coordinate the intake, approval, development and/or distribution of student health related information and forms, with assistance from the administrative staff. This may include asthma, severe allergy, seizure, and diabetes action plans, physician/medication forms, immunization records, and health condition summaries used by appropriate staff/faculty.Manage health screening programs, including vision and hearing.Serve as a resource for faculty and staff.Provide training to school staff on blood borne pathogens, asthma, anaphylaxis and other health concerns as required.Develop appropriate curriculum and materials for instruction in student classrooms regarding dental, nutrition, hand washing, infectious disease control, life threatening allergies, HIV/Aids, human growth and development and other health related topics as needed.Be actively involved in the school's emergency management planning and Incident Command System.Make appropriate health referrals based upon knowledge of available community health resources.Responsible for ensuring that first aid supplies, AED, emergency kits are stocked and in working order.Must rigorously comply with State regulations and guidelines to help assure appropriate health services for students and to guard against infectious diseases and other health risks.COVID-19Develop and communicate relevant procedures regarding students who present to faculty with symptoms of COVID-19 or other illnesses while on campus.Reporting cases of positive and negative responses according to established protocols while remaining cognizant of appropriate reporting requirements (state, local and federal) established by the School.Gather and share public health resource materials that include COVID-19 testing guidelines, COVID-19 testing site numbers, and quarantine guidelines for positive COVID-19 tests.Maintain contact with families who have a reported case of COVID-19 and follow up with them to guide them through requirements for returning to school.Maintain contact with applicable public health agencies regarding contact tracing requirements.Work in partnership with the school leadership to address and provide advice about COVID-19 reporting, attestations, PPE, attendance, policies/procedures for students and/or staff who present COVID-19 symptoms during the school day.Expectations For All at Epiphany School: Contribute to a learning environment based on Epiphany School's three Cs and three Rs: curiosity, confidence, courage, respect, resourcefulness, and responsibility.Use Responsive Classroom approach as a social-emotional learning framework for working with students.Provide recess supervision, arrival, dismissal, and/or front desk coverage as scheduled.Participate in the school community, including professional development/learning, service learning, and community events.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.Represent the school at various regional, state, and national associations relative to role if needed. Typical Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesBachelor of Science in Nursing and current Washington State registered nursing license (RN).A valid Washington State Registered Nurse LicensePossess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate as a school nurse.Knowledge of health care, nursing techniques and principles, including pharmacology, state and federal regulations affecting RN and school RN responsibilities and licensure including basic record keeping processes.Knowledge of communicable diseases and ability to report such diseases to appropriate municipal and governmental agencies.Ability to delegate health service tasks safely consistent with State law and multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse to administer first aid and CPR; administer medications to students, and knowledge of attendant laws and policies for dispensing, delegating medication administration and control of to respond consistently and appropriately to all students in a calm, reassuring and nurturing manner.Ability to plan and provide effective training to staff members assigned with delegated and other health care duties.Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable School/Board policies and legal requirements.Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance with the following preferred, but not required:Nursing experience working in schools, pediatrics and/or related fieldExperience with public health and/or health educationKnowledge of, and ability to work with, students with IEP's (Individual Education Plans) and to contribute as needed to Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT's).DCYF Licensing: May obtain the following upon hire (the school will cover all associated costs):Background checkWA State Food Handlers PermitSTARS 30-hour child-care basics trainingProof of a negative TB testProof of MMR ImmunizationBloodborne pathogens trainingCPR/First Aid certificationCompensation & BenefitsThe starting annual salary is between $ 80,000 - $95,000, based on years of experience, education, and professional certifications.
